The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2025 World Series after the season’s 12 playoff-qualifying teams played a total of 47 postseason games over 33 days from Sept. 30 to Nov. 1.

Here are the Box-Toppers Player of the Game winners in each of the seven World Series games:

Game 1, Oct. 24Alejandro Kirk, Blue Jays.

Game 2, Oct. 25Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers.

Game 3, Oct. 27Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers.

Box-Toppers has picked the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the World Series in preseason predictions for two years in a row.Though both predictions came true, it probably wasn’t much of a prognostic stretch.More interesting are the abject forecast failures. In 2024, B-T picked the Houston Astros as American League champions. (They were eliminated in the AL Wild Card series.) The New York Yankees, who won the AL pennant, were not projected by B-T as a postseason team.In 2025, B-T picked the Baltimore Orioles as AL champions. (They finished fifth in the AL East. Oof.) The Toronto Blue Jays, who won the AL pennant, were not projected by B-T as a postseason team.

Here is a recap look at Box-Toppers Player of the Game winners in each of the 47 postseason games for 2025.

Some highlights:

Yamamoto led with 5 postseason Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors

Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors five times during the 2025 postseason, including three times in the World Series, most of any player.

Yamamoto was also one of four players to win Player of the Game honors twice during the 2024 postseason, which was tied with three other players for the most that season.

Yamamoto is one of eight players who earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors more than once in the 2025 postseason and his five are two more than any other player. Here are his 2025 postseason Player of the Game honors:

  • National League Wild Card Game 2 over the Reds on Oct. 1 (6.2IP 4H 2R 0ER 2BB 9K W), with a +7.2 Box-Toppers game score.

  • NL Championship Series Game 2 over the Brewers on Oct. 14 (CG 3H R BB 3K W), with a +10.0 Box-Toppers game score.

  • World Series Game 2 on Oct. 25 (CG 4H R 0BB 8K W), with a +11.0 game score.

  • World Series Game 6 on Oct. 31 (6IP 5H R BB 6K W), with a +4.0 game score.

  • World Series Game 7 on Nov. 1, his only postseason relief appearance (2.2IP H 0R BB K W).

He also started in the NL Division Series Game 3 loss against the Phillies Oct. 8 (4IP 6H 3R BB 2K L), recording a -7.0 game score.

Two other Dodgers players—Blake Snell and Shohei Ohtani—won Player of the Game honors three times during the postseason. (Ohtani won two of his Player of the Game honors as a pitcher and one as a batter.) Five other players won twice: Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays, Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow, Jorge Polanco of the Mariners and Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.

Players who won multiple Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in the 2025 postseason accounted for 21 of the 47 total postseason games. The other 26 players each won Player of the Game honors once in the postseason.

Highest Box-Toppers game scores by postseason Player of the Game winners

Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage recorded two of the five highest Box-Toppers game scores during the 2025 postseason. Yesavage, who made his Major League debut Sept. 15 and only made three regular season starts, made six postseason appearances in four Blue Jays wins and won Player of the Game honors twice. Here are the five highest Box-Toppers game scores recorded by Player of the Game winners in the 2025 postseason:

  • +17.0 by Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell on Oct. 13 in the NL Championship Series.

  • +15.1 by Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage on Oct. 5 in the American League Division Series.

  • +15.0 by Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler on Oct. 2 in the AL Wild Card Series.

  • +14.0 by Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage on Oct. 29 in the World Series.

  • +13.2 by Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal on Sept. 30 in the AL Wild Card Series.

Yamamoto was the only one to pitch a complete game in the 2025 postseason—and he had two of them. However, his two had the seventh- and ninth-highest Box-Toppers game scores (+11.0 and +10.0) among all postseason games.

Highest Box-Toppers game scores by batters in postseason

The highest Box-Toppers game scores earned by batters in the postseason:

  • +6.0 by Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers on Oct. 27 in the World Series.

  • +6.0 by Aaron Judge of the Yankees on Oct. 7 in the AL Division Series.

  • +6.0 by Eugenio Suarez of the Mariners on Oct. 17 in the AL Championship Series.

  • +5.0 by Alejandro Kirk of the Blue Jays on Oct. 24 in the World Series.

Lowest Box-Toppers game scores to win postseason Player of the Game

Here are the eight lowest Box-Toppers game scores by 2025 postseason Player of the Game winners:

  • +1.0 by Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays on Oct. 8 in AL Division Series.

  • +1.2 by Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Nov. 1 in the World Series.

  • +2.0 by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays on Oct. 28 in the World Series.

  • +2.0 by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays on Oct. 4 in the AL Division Series.

Pitchers dominated postseason Player of the Game wins

In the 47 postseason games, pitchers won Player of the Game honors 33 times while batters did it 14 times. That works out to pitchers winning in 70.2 percent of the games and batters winning in 29.8 percent.

So in the postseason, pitchers won Player of the Game honors at an even higher rate than they did during the regular season, when they already dominated. Pitchers won Player of the Game honors in 61.4 percent of regular-season games while batters won in 38.6 percent.

In the 2025 regular season, batters had the third-lowest share of Box-Toppers points won (38.7) since tracking began in 1995. It is the sixth season that batters’ share has been below 40 percent and all have happened in 2014 or later.

While batters have struggled to reach parity with pitchers in recent seasons, it wasn’t always this way: From 1995 to 2009, batters generally won half or more of all Box-Toppers points each season. But their share of points dropped precipitously after 2009.

Still, the postseason month of 47 games is a small sample size compared to the regular season’s 2,430 games, in which about 92 to 97 games are played each week.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day. (No Box-Toppers points are awarded in postseason games.)

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
