Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Wednesday’s World Series Game 5.
The Toronto Blue Jays win 6-1 to lead the best-of-seven-game series over the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2.
Yesavage struck out 12 over seven innings, allowing one run, three hits and no walks.
Yesavage earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2025, tied for 709th among all players and tied for 194th among AL pitchers. Yesavage made his Major League debut Sept. 15 and appeared in three regular-season games.
This was his second Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of the 2025 postseason. He also did it in the American League Division Series Game 2 win over the Yankees on Oct. 5 (5.1IP 0H 0R BB 11K W).
Yesavage is now one of eight players who have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors more than once this postseason. Three Dodgers players—Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani—have done it three times. Four other players have won twice: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays, Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow, Jorge Polanco of the Mariners and Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski.
This was Yesavage’s fifth postseason start. The other three:
He started the ALCS Game 2 loss to the Mariners on Oct. 13, recording a game-low -9.0 Box-Toppers game score (4IP 4H 5R 3BB 4K L).
He started in the ALCS Game 6 win over the Mariners on Oct. 19, but was not Player of the Game, recording a -0.8 Box-Toppers game score (5.2IP 6H 2R 3BB 7K W).
He started in the World Series Game 1 win over the Dodgers on Oct. 24, but was not Player of the Game, recording a -2.0 Box-Toppers game score (4IP 4H 2R 3BB 5K ND).
Yesavage recorded a +14.0 Box-Toppers game score Wednesday to lead all players. (He had a +15.1 game score in his previous postseason Player of the Game honor on Oct. 5.)
Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell had a -6.8 Box-Toppers game score in the loss (6.2IP 6H 5R 4BB 7K L), which was better than the -12.0 game score he recorded in World Series Game 1 on Oct. 24.
Only three other players Wednesday had game scores above 0.0:
Blue Jays reliever Jeff Hoffman had a +2.0 game score (1IP H 0R 0BB 2K ND).
Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Domínguez had a +1.0 game score (1IP 0H 0R BB K ND).
Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen had a +1.0 game score (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 0K ND).
Blue Jays top batter Addison Barger had a 0.0 game score (2-3 R 0BI). Dodgers top batter Enrique Hernández had a 0.0 game score (HR 1-3 R BI), scoring the Dodgers’ only run.
The series resumes Friday with Game 6 in Toronto.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day. (No Box-Toppers points are awarded in postseason games.)
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
