Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Friday’s World Series Game 6, his fourth such win this postseason, more than all players.

The Los Angeles Dodgers win 3-1 to tie the best-of-seven-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-3, forcing Game 7 Saturday.

Yamamoto struck out six over six innings, allowing one run, five hits and one walk.

Yamamoto earned 17.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025, seventh among all players, fourth among National League pitchers and most among all World Series players.

Yamamoto recorded a +4.0 Box-Toppers game score to lead all players.

This is Yamamoto’s fourth Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of the 2025 postseason and second in the World Series, both of which are most among any player.

Yamamoto has won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in four of his five 2025 postseason starts:

  • NL Wild Card Game 2 over the Reds on Oct. 1 (6.2IP 4H 2R 0ER 2BB 9K W), with a +7.2 Box-Toppers game score.

  • NL Championship Series Game 2 over the Brewers on Oct. 14 (CG 3H R BB 3K W), with a +10.0 Box-Toppers game score.

  • World Series Game 2 on Oct. 25 (CG 4H R 0BB 8K W), with a +11.0 game score.

  • World Series Game 6 Friday, with a +4.0 game score.

He also started in the NL Division Series Game 3 loss against the Phillies Oct. 8 (4IP 6H 3R BB 2K L), recording a -7.0 game score.

Yamamoto is one of eight players who have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors more than once this postseason and leads them all now with four. Two other Dodgers players—Blake Snell and Shohei Ohtani—have won three times. Five other players have won twice: Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays, Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow, Jorge Polanco of the Mariners and Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. Ohtani has won two of his Player of the Game honors as a pitcher and one as a batter.

Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow, normally a starter who earned his first career save by closing the game, got three outs on three pitches.

Two other Dodgers players had positive Box-Toppers game scores Friday:

  • Reliever Justin Wrobleski had a +2.0 game score (1IP H 0R 0BB 2K ND).

  • Tyler Glasnow, normally a starter who earned his first career save by closing the game, had a +1.0 game score (1IP 0H 0BB 0K Sv). Glasnow entered the game in the ninth inning with runners and second and third and no outs. But throwing just three pitches, he induced a pop-out and a dramatic double play that ended the game: Andrés Giménez of the Blue Jays lined what looked like a hit, but Dodgers left fielder Enrique Hernández charged and caught the ball for one out, then saw Blue Jays runner Addison Barger straying off second base. Hernández threw to second baseman Miguel Rojas for the force out, ending the game.

Dodgers top batter Mookie Betts had a 0.0 Box-Toppers game score (1-3 0R 2BI).

Dodgers top batter Mookie Betts had a 0.0 Box-Toppers game score (1-3 0R 2BI).

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman had a +3.0 Box-Toppers game score in the loss (6IP H 3R 2BB 8K L). Gausman, who led Blue Jays players in 2025 with 14.1 Box-Toppers points (15th overall and seventh among American League pitchers), has made six postseason appearances—five starts and one in relief, but did not earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in any of them. He had positive Box-Toppers game scores in all five of his postseason starts.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman had a +3.0 Box-Toppers game score in the loss (6IP H 3R 2BB 8K L).

No Blue Jays batter with a plate appearance had a positive Box-Toppers game score. Best game score by a Blue Jays batter was -1.0 by George Springer (2-4 0R BI).

World Series Game 7, Dodgers at Blue Jays, series tied, 3-3

Saturday’s pitching matchup (for more, see matchups chart below):

Dodgers—Shohei Ohtani, 5.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 171st overall, 55th among NL pitchers.

Ohtani will be pitching on short rest after his previous start in Game 4. By starting, Ohtani can remain in the game as a batter if he exits as a starting pitcher, so this may be a limited appearance of a few innings or less. Tyler Glasnow, the Game 3 starter, would have been in line to start Saturday, but he pitched in relief Friday, throwing three pitches to close Game 6 and earn the save. He will likely be available in relief for Game 7.

Ohtani won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in two of his three 2025 postseason starts:

  • NL Division Series Game 1 on Oct. 4 (6IP 3H 3R BB 9K W).

  • NL Championship Series Game 4 on Oct. 17 (6IP 2H 0R 3BB 10K W).

He won Player of the Game honors for a third time this postseason as a batter in World Series Game 3 on Oct. 27 (2HR 2-2B 4-4 3R 3BI 5BB).

Ohtani also started in the World Series Game 4 loss to the Blue Jays on Oct. 28, recording a -3.0 game score (6IP 6H 4R BB 6K L).

Ohtani earned 3.5 of his 2025 points as a batter, all June 27 and before. He earned 2.0 points as a pitcher, all July 12 and later. Ohtani only made his 2025 pitching debut on June 16, after rehabbing from 2023 elbow surgery. He started pitching just one inning per game, but was slowly ramped up to five innings or more in three of his last four regular-season starts.

Blue Jays—Max Scherzer, 3.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 327th among all players, 97th among American League pitchers.

Scherzer has not won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in his two previous 2025 postseason starts:

  • ALCS Game 4 win over the Mariners on Oct. 16.

  • World Series Game 3 loss to the Dodgers on Oct. 27.

Scherzer, 41, has 256.7 career Box-Toppers points, third among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995, second among active players (behind Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw’s 280.8) and first among active AL pitchers (ahead of Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole’s 165.0).

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day. (No Box-Toppers points are awarded in postseason games.)

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
