AL Player of the Day: Brendon Little, Blue Jays
Little struck out four over 1 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings of middle relief, allowing one walk, in the 3-1 win over the Astros.
He earned Player of the Game honors despite pitching fewer than three innings without a win or save because his +4.1 game score over 1 1/3 innings surpassed closer Tyler Rogers (+1.0 game score, save, 1.0 IP), who would have otherwise won the honor.
This was Little’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Little made his Major League debut Aug. 30, 2022, and was playing in his 140th career game.
Little earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 117th among American League pitchers.
NL Batter of the Day: Alec Burleson, Cardinals
Burleson hit three two-run home runs and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in six runs, in the 13-7 win over the Yankees.
Burleson earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points as NL Batter of the Day, giving him 6.5 for the season, 64th among all players and 11th among NL batters.
AL Batter of the Day
There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Monday because no AL batter won Player of the Game honors in the eight games completed.
Debut
Kevin Alcántara of the Cubs made his Box-Toppers debut Monday with his first career Player of the Game honor (HR 1-1 R 2BI in the 10-5 win over the Dodgers).
Alcántara made his Major League debut Sept. 25, 2024, and was playing in his 33rd career game.
