Brewers closing pitcher Aaron Ashby earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in Saturday’s World Series Game 2 win over the Rays.
Ashby struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks while picking up the save as Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 5-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The Brewers rallied from an early four-run deficit after Tampa Bay struck for four first-inning runs, capped by Liam Hicks’ two-run homer. Sal Frelick tied the game at 4-4 with a solo home run in the sixth, and Cooper Pratt delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh to score Brice Turang. Milwaukee pitchers, led by Ashby, held the Rays scoreless over the final eight innings.
Ashby has now earned Player of the Game honors three times this postseason—the most of any player in 2026. He previously won top player honors on Oct. 7 in National League Division Series Game 4 and Oct. 12 in NL Championship Series Game 2.
Ashby earned Player of the Game by posting a game-high +3.2 Box-Toppers game score. He also recorded a game-high +4.2 score in Friday’s Game 1, but did not qualify for top player honors because he pitched fewer than three innings without recording a win or save (1.2IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K ND). Teammate Jacob Misiorowski was Game 1 Player of the Game.
Ashby 2026 Regular Season
Ashby earned 5.0 Box-Toppers points in 2026 (184th overall, 56th among NL pitchers, 6th among NL middle relievers). All five of his regular season Player of the Game honors came as a middle reliever. Two of his three postseason honors have come as a closing pitcher.

World Series Game 3, Brewers lead Rays 2-0
Monday’s pitching matchup (for more, see matchups chart below):
Brewers—Robert Gasser, 6.0 Box-Toppers points in 2026, 142nd overall, 48th among NL pitchers.
Gasser won Player of the Game on Oct. 14 in NLCS Game 3.
Rays—Freddy Peralta, 5.7 Box-Toppers points in 2026 (148th overall, 57th among AL pitchers).
He was Player of the Game Oct. 13 in the American League Championship Series Game 2.
He began the season with the Mets, but did not win Player of the Game honors in 2026 until Aug. 26, after his Aug. 2 trade to the Rays. In September, he won Player of the Game honors four times at a pace that would have given him 24 points over a full season.
Peralta, once the Brewers ace, matches up against the team that traded him to the Mets after last season. He earned 12 or more points in four of five seasons from 2021 to 2025, all with Milwaukee, including 14.7 in 2025, 12th overall and 8th among NL pitchers.
