Ben Williamson earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in Tuesday’s World Series Game 4, delivering a pinch-hit, bases-loaded single in the 12th inning to give the Rays a 4-3 walk-off victory over Milwaukee.

Tampa Bay forces Game 5 Wednesday in the best-of-seven series that the Brewers now lead 3-1.

Williamson entered as a right-handed pinch hitter for Victor Mesa Jr. against Milwaukee left-handed reliever Shane Drohan. With the bases loaded and the score tied 3-3, Williamson singled on the first pitch he saw, driving in Nick Fortes with the winning run.

The game was tied 2-2 from the fifth inning until the 12th. Cooper Pratt put Milwaukee ahead 3-2 in the top of the 12th with a solo home run, putting the Brewers within three outs of a championship. But Tampa Bay opened the bottom of the 12th with back-to-back baserunners before Jonny DeLuca hit an RBI single to tie the game. Chandler Simpson followed with a single to load the bases before Williamson's walk-off hit with no outs.

The Rays scored two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat the Brewers in Tuesday’s World Series Game 4.

Two Rays pitchers posted higher Box-Toppers game scores than Williamson’s +1.0, but neither qualified for Player of the Game honors because neither pitched at least three innings or recorded a win or save:

  • Tyler Wells (+2.2)—Rays reliever who pitched in the 10th and 11th innings (1.2IP 0H 0R 0BB K ND).

  • Nick Martinez (+2.0)—Rays reliever who pitched the sixth and seventh innings (2IP H 0R 0BB K ND).

Two other Rays position players—Cedric Mullins and Nick Fortes—also earned +1.0 game scores (both with 0-0 R 0BI). Williamson earned Player of the Game honors over both because he recorded an official at-bat, whereas Mullins and Fortes entered solely as pinch runners.
