Dodgers pass Tigers to lead Box-Toppers team rankings, Blue Jays make big jump

The Los Angeles Dodgers rise to first place in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, passing the Detroit Tigers, who have led for the past two weeks.

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, July 3. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 27 to July 3. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of June 26.

The Tigers maintain their lead among American League teams while the Toronto Blue Jays are the week’s hottest team.

Dodgers lead

Dodgers players have accumulated 66.0 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 5.0 points in the past week, rising from second to first place overall, just 0.4 points ahead of the second place Tigers (65.6 points).

The Dodgers lead National League teams for the third straight week ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies (64.1 points, third place overall, picking up 6.2 points in the past week).

The Dodgers previously led five weeks this season, most recently for three straight weeks from May 2 to May 15.

The Dodgers have baseball’s best winning percentage (.636) and are led by pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (11.0 Box-Toppers points, eighth overall, fourth among NL pitchers). Top batter is Max Muncy (6.0 points, fifth among NL batters), who this week was placed on the injured list with a bone bruise in his left knee and is expected to miss about six weeks. Twenty-five different Dodgers players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

Tigers lead AL teams

The Tigers lead AL teams for the third week in a row with 65.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 in the past week, falling from first to second place overall.

They lead AL teams ahead of the second-place new York Yankees (61.8 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.5 in the past week, falling from third to fifth place overall).

The Tigers have the AL’s best winning percentage (.614) and are led by pitcher Tarik Skubal (12.7 Box-Toppers points, second among all players, first among AL pitchers). Tigers’ best batter is Riley Greene (9.0 points, first among AL batters). Twenty-one different Tigers players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

Hottest team: Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.9 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Blue Jays now have 55.9 Box-Toppers points for the season, rising from 19th to eighth place overall. Their 11-spot rise is the biggest jump among all teams this week.

The Blue Jays won six of their seven games this week to pick up 7.9 Box-Toppers points:

  • 1.7 points on June 27 by pitcher José Berríos for winning AL Player of the Day.

  • 1.0 point on June 29 by closing pitcher Jeff Hoffman for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.0 point on June 30 by pitcher Max Scherzer for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.7 points on July 1 by right fielder George Springer for winning AL Player of the Day.

  • 1.0 point on July 2 by right fielder Addison Barger for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.5 points on July 3 by designated hitter George Springer for winning AL Batter of the Day, his second Player of the Game honor of the week.

Biggest fall: Giants, Guardians

Two teams each fell four spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, tied for the biggest drop among all teams:

  • The San Francisco Giants fell from 14th to 18th place with 52.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 in the past week.

  • The Cleveland Guardians fell from 20th to 24th place with 45.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 0.0 in the past week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the 12th straight week with 24.1 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
