Dodgers pass Padres to lead Box-Toppers team rankings; Mariners pass Yankees in AL

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the week’s hottest team, rise to first place in Box-Toppers season player rankings, passing last week’s leader, the San Diego Padres, who fall to third place.

Team rankings

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, May 1. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April 25 to May 1. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of April 24.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners rise to lead American League teams, passing the New York Yankees, who fall to second among AL teams.

Dodgers lead

Dodgers players have accumulated 27.1 Box-Toppers points this season, including 6.7 in the past week, most of any team, rising from second to first place overall and first among National League teams. Last week’s leader, the San Diego Padres fall to third place overall and second among National League teams with 23.6 points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

The Dodgers have baseball’s best winning percentage (.677) and are led by pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (5.0 Box-Toppers points, sixth overall and third among NL pitchers). Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (3.2 points, fifth among NL batters). Fifteen different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Mariners lead AL teams

The Seattle Mariners rise from ninth place overall to second with 23.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 points in the past week. They rise past last week’s top AL team, the New York Yankees, who fall to second among AL teams with 23.3 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week. The Yankees fall from third to fifth place overall.

The Mariners have the second-best winning percentage in the AL (.600), behind the Detroit Tigers (.625). The Tigers are 11th in Box-Toppers team rankings, fifth among AL teams with 21.2 points, picking up 5.5 in the past week, rising from 15th place overall last week.

The Mariners are led by pitcher Logan Gilbert (4.7 points, eighth overall and third among AL pitchers). Mariners’ top batter is Randy Arozarena (3.0 points, sixth among AL batters). Eleven different Mariners players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

The Mariners made the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, rising seven spots from ninth to second place overall.

Biggest fall: Angels

The Los Angeles Angels had the biggest decline in Box-Toppers rankings this week, falling six spots from 22nd to 28th place with 12.5 points, picking up no points in the past week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the third week with 6.7 points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
