Padres lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 2nd week; Yankees maintain AL team lead

The San Diego Padres remain atop Box-Toppers team rankings for the second week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, April 24. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April 18 to April 24. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of April 17.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees continue to lead American League teams, while the Washington Nationals are the week’s hottest team.

Padres lead

Padres players have accumulated 21.6 Box-Toppers points this season, including 2.0 in the past week, ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers, who maintain their ranking with 20.4 points, picking up 3.0 in the past week. The Padres also lead the Dodgers among National League teams for the second week.

The Padres have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.680) behind the New York Mets (.720). The Mets rise from eighth to fifth in Box-Toppers team rankings with 19.5 points, picking up 6.0 in the past week.

The Padres are led by pitcher Nick Pivetta, who leads all players with 6.0 Box-Toppers points. Padres’ top batter is Manny Machado (1.5 points, 17th among NL batters). Twelve different Padres players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Yankees lead AL teams

The New York Yankees lead AL teams for the second week with 20.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.4 in the past week, maintaining their third-place overall ranking.

The Yankees lead the second-place AL team, the Boston Red Sox, who rise from seventh to sixth place overall with 19.1 points, picking up 5.2 in the past week.

The Yankees and the Detroit Tigers are tied with the best winning percentage among AL teams (.600). The Tigers rise from 17th to 15th place overall with 15.7 points, picking up 4.7 in the past week.

The Yankees are led by pitchers Max Fried (3.7 points, fifth among AL pitchers) and Carlos Rodón (3.7 points, sixth among AL pitchers). Yankees’ top batter is Aaron Judge (3.5 points, second among AL batters). Eleven different Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Nationals

The Washington Nationals are the hottest team in the past week, picking up 6.0 Box-Toppers points and rising seven spots in rankings from 24th to 17th place with 14.9 Box-Toppers points. The Nationals won four of their six games this week.

Biggest fall: Blue Jays and Cardinals

The Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals had the biggest decline in Box-Toppers rankings this week, each falling eight spots:

  • The Blue Jays fell from 12th to 20th place with 14.0 points, picking up 1.0 in the past week.

  • The Cardinals fell from 19th to 27th place with 10.5 points, picking up 1.0 in the past week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the second week with 4.7 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week, winning one of their six games they played.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
