Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 3rd week; Tigers rise to lead AL teams

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain the lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the third straight week.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Tigers rise to lead American League teams, while the Tigers and the Texas Rangers are the week’s hottest teams.

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, May 15. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 9 to May 15. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 9.

Dodgers players have accumulated 36.6 Box-Toppers points this season, including 5.5 in the past week, maintaining first place ahead of the Detroit Tigers (34.9 points). They also rank first among National League teams, ahead of the second-place San Diego Padres with 33.3 points, picking up 5.7 in the past week, rising from fifth to third place overall.

The Dodgers are tied with the Detroit Tigers for baseball’s best winning percentage (.659). The Dodgers are led by pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6.0 Box-Toppers points, seventh overall and third among NL pitchers). Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (3.2 points, 10th among NL batters). Nineteen different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Tigers lead AL teams

The Detroit Tigers rise to lead AL teams with 34.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.0 in the past week, tied for the most gained in the past week. The Tigers rise from fourth to second place overall and pass last week’s top AL team, the Seattle Mariners, who fall from second to seventh overall and fifth among AL teams with 30.7 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week.

The Tigers are tied with the Dodgers for baseball’s best winning percentage (.659).

The Tigers are led by pitcher Tarik Skubal (6.0 points, fifth overall and fourth among AL pitchers). Tigers’ top batter is Riley Greene (3.5 points, fourth among AL batters). Thirteen different Tigers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Rangers, Tigers

The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers are the hottest teams of the week, each picking up 7.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week.

The Tigers, as previously mentioned, rose from fourth to second place overall with 34.9 points.

The Rangers made the biggest jump in rankings among all teams, rising 10 spots from 15th to fifth overall with 30.9 points.

Biggest fall: Giants

The San Francisco Giants fell from 10th to 17th place overall with 26.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. That seven-spot fall was biggest among all teams this week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the fifth week with 8.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
