Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 2nd week; Mariners maintain AL lead

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain the lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the second week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, May 8. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 2 to May 8. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of May 1.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners maintain the lead among American League teams and the Kansas City Royals are this week’s hottest team.

Dodgers lead

Dodgers players have accumulated 31.1 Box-Toppers points this season, including 4.0 in the past week, maintaining first place ahead of the Seattle Mariners (28.7 points). They also rank first among National League teams, ahead of the second-place San Diego Padres with 27.6 points, picking up 4.0 in the past week, falling from second to fifth place overall.

The Dodgers are tied with the Detroit Tigers for baseball’s best winning percentage (.658). The Tigers rank fourth overall, third among AL teams, with 27.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.7 in the past week.

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6.0 Box-Toppers points, second overall and second among NL pitchers). Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (3.2 points, ninth among NL batters). Sixteen different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Mariners lead AL teams

The Seattle Mariners lead AL teams for the second week with 28.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week, maintaining their overall second place ranking. They lead over the second-place AL team, the Kansas City Royals (27.9 points).

The Mariners have the second-best winning percentage among AL teams (.611), behind the Detroit Tigers (.658).

The Mariners are led by pitcher Bryan Woo (5.0 points, sixth among AL pitchers). Mariners’ top batter is Randy Arozarena (3.0 points, seventh among AL batters). Thirteen different Mariners players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Royals

The Kansas City Royals are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week, rising from 14th to third place overall with 27.9 points. The Royals’ 11-spot jump in rankings is also the biggest among all teams this week.

Biggest fall: Yankees, Reds, Rangers

Three teams each fell six spots in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, the biggest decline among all teams:

  • The New York Yankees fell from fifth to 11th place with 25.8 points, picking up 2.5 in the past week.

  • The Cincinnati Reds fell from eighth to 14th place with 24.4 points, picking up 2.7 in the past week.

  • The Texas Rangers fell from ninth to 15th place with 23.9 points, picking up 2.5 in the past week.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the fourth week with 6.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week. Three teams gained as many or more points in the past week as the Rockies have gained all season: the Kansas City Royals (7.7), the St. Louis Cardinals (7.5) and the Detroit Tigers (6.7).

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
