American League Batter of the Day—Jose Trevino of the Yankees hit two home runs and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-2 win over the Mariners.

Trevino just beat teammate Aaron Judge for Player of the Game honors. Both had similar line scores and the same +2.0 Box-Toppers game score, but Trevino won Player of the Game because he hit two home runs, while Judge had a homer and a double (HR 2B 2-4 2R 2BI). Judge ranks fourth among AL batters in 2022 Box-Toppers points (8.2). Trevino now has 2.5 points, 60th among AL batters.

Jose Trevino of the Yankees is Monday’s Box-Toppers AL Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Pete Alonso of the Mets homered, doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in one run, in the 7-3 win over the Nationals.

Alonso earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 12.2 for the season, rising to ninth in season player rankings and extending his lead among NL batters, ahead of second-place Rowdy Tellez of the Brewers (8.2).

Alonso rejoins Box-Toppers’ overall top 10 list after falling off the list more than a month ago. He was among the top 10 from May 19 to May 25, rejoining May 27, taking the overall lead in first place from June 4 to June 8, and stayed on the top 10 list through June 28. He is the only full-time batter currently among the top 10. Shohei Ohtani of the Angels, who ranks first overall with 17.0 Box-Toppers points, has earned 4.0 of his points as batter, the other 13.0 coming as a starting pitcher.

The last batter to be among the top 10 players in a season is Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers, who had 16.9 points in 2013, eighth overall. In the decade from 2000 to 2009, batters finished among Box-Toppers’ top 10 overall players 23 times. But Cabrera is the only batter to finish in the top 10 since 2010.

Pete Alonso of the Mets is Monday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
