2013 leaders

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw led all players in Box-Toppers points for the 2013 season with 21.7.

Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer led all American League players in 2013 with 18.1 Box-Toppers points, fifth place on the overall player rankings list.

Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers led American League batters with 16.9 Box-Toppers points. He was in eighth place overall, the only batter in the player rankings top 10 list.

Paul Goldchmidt of the Diamondbacks is top National League batter, with 13.7 Box-Toppers points in 2013.

Both pitchers who led their respective league in Box-Toppers points also won the Cy Young Award for 2013. Kershaw won in the National League and Scherzer won in the American League. (More details on the Cy Young Awards and how top candidates finished in Box-Toppers points.)

However, only one of the two batters who led their league in Box-Toppers points went on to win their league’s Most Valuable Player award. Cabrera won the AL MVP award. But Goldschmidt finished second in NL MVP voting, behind Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates.

McCutchen, however, had only 6.0 Box-Toppers points for 2013, ranking 22nd among NL batters. (Here are more details on MVP awards, how top candidates finished in Box-Toppers points and some theories about why Box-Toppers and NL MVP voters came to such different conclusions.)

This list includes only MLB players active at the close of the 2013 season and includes them with the team they were with and the league they were in at the end of the season.

What are those numbers after players' names?
