Cardinals pitcher Dustin May is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, with a complete-game, one-hit shutout.

Also Monday, Nick Kurtz of the Athletics extends his lead among American League batters in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Other top players Monday include Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler, Colt Keith of the Tigers, Eugenio Suárez of the Reds and Geraldo Perdomo of the Diamondbacks.

Player of the Day: Dustin May, Cardinals

May pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking one, in the 3—0 win over the Padres.

May carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before giving up a walk to Fernando Tatis Jr. Two batters later, he lost the no-hitter, giving up a single to Manny Machado, the only hit of the game. He threw 101 pitches.

It’s the second time this season May has flirted with a no-hitter. On May 27, he pitched seven no-hit innings against the Brewers but ended up losing that game despite a +11.0 game score (the highest that day for a non-Player of the Game winner). On Monday, his dominant shutout earned a +16.0 score

May earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 33rd among all players and 18th among National League pitchers.
