Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies regain the lead among National League teams and the Texas Rangers are the week’s hottest team.
Tigers lead
Tigers players have accumulated 105.9 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 2.0 in the past week. They lead over the second-place Boston Red Sox, who have 102.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.5 over the past week, rising from fifth place overall last week.
This is the 10th week this season the Tigers have led team rankings. They have led nine of the last 12 weeks and eight of the last 10 weeks.
The Tigers have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.578), behind the Milwaukee Brewers (.615) and Toronto Blue Jays (.582). The Brewers are seventh in Box-Toppers team rankings (98.3 points) and the Blue Jays are 11th (90.0).
The Tigers are led by pitcher Tarik Skubal (19.4 Box-Toppers points, second among all players, first among AL pitchers). Tigers’ top batter is Riley Greene (9.0 points, second among AL batters). Twenty-nine different Tigers players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.
Phillies lead NL teams
Phillies players have accumulated 102.3 Box-Toppers points in 2025, picking up 5.0 in the past week, maintaining their overall third-place ranking. They pass last week’s NL team leader, the San Diego Padres, who fall to second with 100.7 points. The Padres fall from second overall last week to fifth this week, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.
The Phillies led NL teams three previous weeks in 2025, most recently the week of July 25, when they led all teams.
The Phillies have the second-best winning percentage among NL teams (.575), behind the Milwaukee Brewers (.615) and tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers (.575). The Dodgers are 14th in team rankings with 88.0 Box-Toppers points.
The Phillies are led by pitcher Zack Wheeler (20.1 Box-Toppers points, first overall). Wheeler, however, is out for the season with venous thoracic outlet syndrome. He will undergo thoracic outlet decompression surgery and recovery time is expected to be six to eight months. Phillies’ top batter is Kyle Schwarber (11.0 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). Twenty-three different Phillies players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.
Hottest team: Rangers
The Texas Rangers are the week’s hottest team, with a net gain of 9.0 Box-Toppers points, winning five of their six games this week and signing infielder Dylan Moore.
The Rangers now have 99.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025 and rise from eighth to sixth place overall.
The Rangers gained 7.5 of their 9.0 points in the past week in five wins:
1.0 point on Aug. 22 by starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi for winning Player of the Game.
2.0 points on Aug. 23 by starting pitcher Jack Leiter for winning overall Player of the Day.
1.0 point on Aug. 24 by starting pitcher Merrill Kelly for winning Player of the Game.
2.0 points on Aug. 26 by starting pitcher Patrick Corbin for winning overall Player of the Day.
1.5 points on Aug. 27 by right fielder Adolis Garcia for winning AL Batter of the Day.
The Rangers also gained 1.5 Box-Toppers points by signing Dylan Moore to a minor league contract this week. Moore earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points earlier this season with the Mariners before being released.
Biggest rise: Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox rose three spots in Box-Toppers team rankings, the biggest jump among all teams, from fifth to second place overall with 102.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.5 in the past week.
Biggest fall: Braves
The Atlanta Braves fell four spots this week, the biggest drop among all teams, from 11th to 15th place with 86.7 points, with a net gain of 0.8 points in the past week.
Net loss: Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates had a net loss of 3.0 points this week, falling from 26th to 27th place overall with 55.0 Box-Toppers points.
The Pirates gained 5.7 Box-Toppers points this week in five wins but lost 8.7 by designating for assignment starting pitcher Andrew Heaney. He had earned 8.7 points with the Pirates this season, which was 16th among NL pitchers and second among all Pittsburgh players.
Last place: Rockies
The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the 19th straight week with 40.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.
