Dodgers lead over Brewers in Box-Toppers team rankings shrinks to under 1.0 point

The Los Angeles Dodgers hold the top spot in Box-Toppers team rankings for the sixth consecutive week, though their lead over the second-place Milwaukee Brewers has closed to under 1.0 point.

Here are Box-Toppers 2026 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 3. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team have accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows the number of points teams have accumulated in the past week. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 27.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees maintain the lead among American League teams and the Baltimore Orioles and Philadephia Phillies posted the week’s biggest points gains.

Dodgers lead overall

The Dodgers lead all teams with 119.3 Box-Toppers points (+3.0 this week). Los Angeles has held the top spot in 14 of the past 15 reports—and 19 of the past 21—while leading NL teams in 21 of 22 reports this season.

The Dodgers are just 0.7 points ahead of the second-place Milwaukee Brewers (118.6), who gained 4.7 points this week. The Brewers have baseball’s best winning percentage (.617) while the Dodgers are second (.593), tied with two other teams, the Atlanta Braves (sixth in Box-Toppers rankings with 99.5 points) and the Tampa Bay Rays (fifth in Box-Toppers rankings with 100.5 points).

The Dodgers are led by Shohei Ohtani with 15.7 Box-Toppers points (7.0 as a batter and 8.7 as a pitcher). He ranks eighth overall, first among NL batters and fifth among NL pitchers. Other key Dodgers players include pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (13.4 points, eighth among NL pitchers) and Andy Pages (5.7 points, 22nd among NL batters). Twenty-seven Dodgers have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2026.

Yankees lead AL teams

The Yankees lead AL teams for a third straight week with 103.5 Box-Toppers points (+6.0 this week), remaining fourth overall. The Yankees have led AL teams 18 of the past 19 weeks. The Tampa Bay Rays rank second in the AL (100.5 points) despite holding a three-game lead over New York in the AL East.

New York is led by pitcher Cam Schlittler (18.7 points, fourth overall and second among AL pitchers). Top batter is Jazz Chisholm Jr. (6.5 points, ninth among AL batters).  Twenty-eight Yankees players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2026.

Biggest gain: Orioles, Phillies

The Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies both gained 6.5 Box-Toppers points this week, most among all teams:

  • The Orioles rise from 23rd to 21st place with 72.0 points.

  • The Phillies maintain third place overall with 106.2 points.

Last place: Los Angeles Angels

The Angels fall from 29th to 30th and last place with 50.4 points, gaining 2.5 in the past week. Last week’s last-place team, the San Francisco Giants, rose to 29th place with 50.7 points, gaining 3.0 in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
