Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres maintain the lead among National League teams for the fourth straight week, while the Atlanta Braves are the week’s hottest team.

Tigers lead

Tigers players have accumulated 103.9 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 7.0 in the past week. They lead over the second-place Padres (97.7 points) and lead American League teams over the second-ranked New York Yankees (95.5 points, picking up 7.2 in the past week, rising from sixth to fourth overall).

This is the ninth week this season the Tigers have led team rankings. They have led eight of the last 11 weeks and seven of the last nine weeks.

The Tigers have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.589), behind the Milwaukee Brewers (.625). The Brewers are sixth in Box-Toppers team rankings (92.6 points).

The Tigers are led by pitcher Tarik Skubal (19.4 Box-Toppers points, second among all players, first among AL pitchers). Tigers’ top batter is Riley Greene (9.0 points, second among AL batters). Twenty-nine different Tigers players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

Padres lead NL teams

Padres players have accumulated 97.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025, picking up 4.0 in the past week, maintaining second place in overall rankings since last week.

They lead NL teams ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies (97.3 points, picking up 6.7 points in the past week, rising from fourth to third place overall).

The Padres have the fifth-best winning percentage (.563) among NL teams behind the Milwaukee Brewers (.625), the Philadelphia Phillies (.583), the Chicago Cubs (.570) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (.570). The Padres are second in the NL West, one game behind the Dodgers, who rank 15th in Box-Toppers team rankings with 82.8 points.

The Padres are led by pitcher Nick Pivetta (17.7 Box-Toppers points, third overall, second among NL pitchers). Padres’ top batter is Manny Machado (7.0 points, eighth among NL batters). Twenty-four different Padres players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Braves

The Atlanta Braves are the week’s hottest team, with a net gain of 15.9 Box-Toppers points, gained mostly by acquiring three players. But the Braves also won five of their six games during the week.

The Braves now have 85.9 Box-Toppers points in 2025 and rise from 16th to 11th place overall. Their five-spot rise is the biggest jump among all teams.

While the jump places the Braves among the top teams in the National League in Box-Toppers rankings, their chances of finishing high in the standings or making the postseason remain slim as they are nine games out of the final NL Wild Card spot with about five weeks left in the season.

The Braves gained 10.2 of their 15.9 points in the past week by acquiring these players:

  • Starting pitcher Cal Quantrill off waivers from the Miami Marlins. Quantrill earned 6.7 Box-Toppers points with the Marlins this season, 30th among NL pitchers.

  • Outfielder Jake Fraley off waivers from the Reds. Fraley earned 2.5 points with the Reds in 2025.

  • Starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who had been designated for assingment by the Braves before being re-signed this week. Carrasco earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point earlier this season with the Yankees.

The Braves gained the other 5.7 points by winning five of its six games this week:

  • 1.7 points on Aug. 15 by starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep for winning NL Player of the Day.

  • 1.0 point on Aug. 16 by starting pitcher Joey Wentz for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.0 point on Aug. 17 by relief pitcher Aaron Bummer for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.0 point on Aug. 19 by first baseman Matt Olson for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.0 point on Aug. 20 by starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep for winning Player of the Game.

Biggest fall: Mariners, Marlins

Two teams each fell four spots this week, tied for the biggest drop in rankings among all teams, the Seattle Mariners and Miami Marlins.

The Mariners fell from third to seventh place with 92.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 in the past week.

The Marlins fell from 19th to 23rd place with 61.7 Box-Toppers points, with a net loss of 4.7 in the past week. The Marlins won two of their six games this week (worth 2.0 Box-Toppers points), but also allowed starting pitcher Cal Quantrill to exit via waivers to the Atlanta Braves. Quantrill had earned 6.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025 with the Marlins.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the 18th straight week with 39.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 points in the past week.
