BTP: Box-Toppers points

Other Player of the Game winners Tuesday include Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, Giancarlo Stanton of the Yankees and Ozzie Albies of the Braves.

Player of the Day

Corbin struck out eight over eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 7-3 win over the Angels.

Corbin earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, 104th among all players and 41st among American League pitchers.

Corbin also now has 103.4 career Box-Toppers points, 85th-most among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 2.0 points Tuesday, he passes two players on the “all-time” career points list—Ken Griffey Jr. (102.2) and Miguel Tejada (102.3). (It should be noted that Griffey began his career before Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. He would have an estimated 140 career points if his career from 1989 were tracked.)

Corbin now trails 84th-ranked player Jamie Moyer (104.0). (Moyer began his career in 1986, prior to the start of Box-Toppers tracking. Box-Toppers estimates he would have about 128 career points if his entire career were tracked.)

Corbin ranks 15th among active, signed players in career points, sixth among active AL pitchers.

National League Player of the Day

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw struck out six over five innings, allowing one run, two hits and no walks, in the 6-3 win over the Reds.

Kershaw earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 6.4 for the season, 36th among NL pitchers.

Kershaw also now has 278.8 career Box-Toppers points, second-most among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. He is now 3.7 Box-Toppers points behind “all-time” career points leader Randy Johnson (282.5). (It should be noted that Johnson began his career in 1988, before the advent of Box-Toppers tracking. If his entire career were tracked, rough projections put his Box-Toppers point total at 380.)

Still, Kershaw now could pass the total Johnson accumulated over 15 seasons—from 1995 to 2009—in two more starts. (A player can earn a maximum of 2.0 points in each game.) Kershaw has earned his 278.8 points over 18 seasons.

Kershaw leads active players in career points ahead of the second-place player, Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer (256.7). Kershaw leads active NL pitchers ahead of second-place Justin Verlander of the Giants (247.0).

National League Player of the Day is Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

American League Batter of the Day

Giancarlo Stanton of the Yankees homered, doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in five runs, in the 5-1 win over the Nationals.

American League Batter of the Day is Giancarlo Stanton of the Yankees.

National League Batter of the Day

Ozzie Albies of the Braves hit two home runs, including a three-run homer, in the 11-2 win over the Marlins. Albies also doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in four runs.

National League Batter of the Day is Ozzie Albies of the Braves.

Notable

Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito has the most 2025 Box-Toppers points among Tuesday’s Player of the Game winners.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
