New York Yankees regain Box-Toppers team rankings lead, passing Detroit Tigers

The New York Yankees regain the lead in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, passing last week’s leader, the Detroit Tigers.

Team rankings

Here are Box-Toppers 2025 team rankings through games of Thursday, June 12. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 6 to June 12. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of June 5.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs maintain their lead among National League teams and the Los Angeles Angels are the week’s hottest team.

Yankees lead

Yankees players have accumulated 55.3 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 5.4 points in the past week, rising from second place last week to first place this week. They pass the Tigers, who fall to second place overall with 54.6 points, picking up 4.7 in the past week. The Yankees also lead the Tigers among American League teams.

The Yankees have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.627) behind the New York Mets (.652) and the Tigers (.643). The Mets rank fourth in Box-Toppers team rankings with 50.2 points, picking up 7.5 in the past week.

The Yankees are led by pitcher Carlos Rodón (9.7 Box-Toppers points, third among all players and second among AL pitchers). Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (3.5 points, 10th among AL batters). Seventeen different Yankees players have earned Player of the Game honors so far this season.

Cubs lead NL teams

The Cubs lead NL teams for the second week with 51.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.7 in the past week and maintaining their overall third place ranking. They lead NL teams ahead of the New York Mets (50.2).

The Cubs have the second-best winning percentage among NL teams (.609) behind the Mets (.652).

The Cubs are led by designated hitter/outfielder Seiya Suzuki and outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, both with 6.5 Box-Toppers points. Suzuki ranks second among NL batters and Crow-Armstrong ranks third. Cubs top pitcher is Jameson Taillon (5.4 Box-Toppers points, 16th among NL pitchers). Nineteen different Cubs players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2025.

Hottest team: Angels

The Los Angeles Angels are the week’s hottest team, picking up 9.5 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Angels now have 40.0 Box-Toppers points for the season, rising just two spots, from 23rd to 21st place overall.

The Angels won five of their six games this week, picking up 7.5 Box-Toppers points:

  • 1.0 point on June 6 by second baseman Chris Taylor for winning Player of the Game.

  • 1.5 points on June 7 by centerfielder Jo Adell for winning AL Batter of the Day.

  • 2.0 points on June 9 by pitcher Yusei Kikuchi for winning overall Player of the Day.

  • 2.0 points on June 10 by pitcher José Soriano for winning overall Player of the Day.

  • 1.0 point on June 11 by pitcher Reid Detmers for winning Player of the Game.

The Angels picked up another 2.0 points this week by signing first baseman and outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr., who earned 2.0 points earlier this season with the Giants.

Biggest rise: Rangers

The Texas Rangers made the biggest jump in rankings this week, rising eight spots from 20th to 12th place with 42.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 points in the past week.

Biggest fall: Mariners

The Seattle Mariners fell 10 spots, most of any team, from ninth to 19th place overall with 40.4 Box-Toppers points, with a net gain of no points in the past week.

While the Mariners won one of their six games this week (earning 2.0 points when pitcher George Kirby won Player of the Day on June 8), they also designated for assignment outfielder Leody Taveras, erasing the 2.0 points he earned with the team earlier this season.

Last place: Rockies

The Colorado Rockies remain in 30th and last place for the ninth straight week with 15.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
