Also Saturday, Astros pitcher Hunter Brown rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Other Player of the Game winners include Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon, Jo Adell of the Angels, Jesús Sánchez of the Marlins and Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals.
Player of the Day
deGrom struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 5-0 win over the Nationals.
deGrom earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, 14th among all players and ninth among American League pitchers.
deGrom also now has 147.2 career Box-Toppers points, 30th-most among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 2.0 points Saturday, he passes two players on the “all-time” career points list—David Ortiz (145.9) and Jim Thome (146.7). (Thome began his career in 1991, before the start of Box-Toppers tracking. If his entire career were tracked, Box-Toppers estimates his career total would be about 154.) deGrom now trails 29th-ranked player Javier Vázquez (148.3).
deGrom ranks sixth among active players in career points and third among active AL pitchers behind Max Scherzer of the Blue Jays (253.7) and Gerrit Cole of the Yankees (165.0).

National League Player of the Day
Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon (7IP 3H R BB 5K W in the 6-1 win over the Tigers) earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, giving him 4.4 for the season, 22nd among NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day
Jo Adell of the Angels (2HR 3-3 2R 3BI in the 8-6 win over the Mariners) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, giving him 2.5 for the season, 31st among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day
Jesús Sánchez of the Marlins (HR 2B 2-5 2R 5BI in the 11-10, 10-inning win over the Rays) earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points, giving him 3.0 for the season, 23rd among NL batters.
Rankings
Astros pitcher Hunter Brown rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.
Brown (5.1IP 4H R 5BB 9K ND in the 5-3, 10-inning win over the Guardians) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 8.4 for the season. He ranks fourth among AL pitchers.
Streak
Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals has now earned Box-Toppers points in 12 straight seasons after earning his first Player of the Game honor of 2025 Saturday.
Arenado, who hit a pinch-hit, ninth-inning, walk-off single in the 2-1 win over the Dodgers (1-1 0R BI), earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2014 with the Rockies and now has 66.9 career points, seventh among active NL batters.
His best season was 2016 with the Rockies when he had 10.7 points, first among NL batters. In 2024, he had just 1.0 point with the Cardinals, despite playing in 152 games. It was the second time in his career he extended his consecutive season streak finishing the year with just 1.0 point. He also did it in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season with the Rockies.
He has finished among the top 10 NL batters in six seasons.
