Overall Box-Toppers points leader, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, leads the Box-Toppers All-Star teams for the 2025 regular season.
The American League and National League All-Star teams are composed of the players with the highest Box-Toppers point totals by position in each league. In addition to nine batters in each league are the top four starting pitchers in each league and the top closing pitcher.
Skubal, Box-Toppers Player of the Year for 2025, led all players with 22.1 Box-Toppers points. He also won the 2025 AL Cy Young Award. The three other starting pitchers on Box-Toppers’ year-end AL All-Star team are:
Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox, 19.8 Box-Toppers points, second among AL pitchers, fourth overall.
Bryan Woo of the Mariners, 18.0 points, third among AL pitchers, fifth overall.
Luis Castillo of the Mariners, 16.1 points, fourth among NL pitchers, ninth overall.

| 5/11 | Zack Wheeler | Phillies | 7.4 | 112 |
| 8/31 | Tarik Skubal | Tigers | 20.4 | 29 |
Skubal did not take the lead in season Box-Toppers points until Aug. 31, when he passed Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler. Skubal earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point as Player of the Game that day, giving him 20.4 Box-Toppers points, passing Wheeler’s 20.1 points. Wheeler had led all players since May 11 and led for a total of 112 days during the season, longest of all players.
At July’s All-Star break, Skubal ranked second among all players with 14.4 Box-Toppers points, trailing Wheeler’s 18.1 points. Skubal’s 14.4 points at the All-Star break led AL pitchers, ahead of Crochet’s 13.1.
Skenes leads NL All-Stars
Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes leads all NL players and is the top-ranked pitcher among Box-Toppers’ NL All-Stars. Skenes earned 21.1 Box-Toppers points in 2025, second overall behind Skubal. Skenes also won the 2025 NL Cy Young Award.
Skenes only passed Wheeler in the final days of the season on Sept. 24 with 21.1 Box-Toppers points over Wheeler’s 20.1.
Wheeler led NL pitchers for 18 straight weeks and held the lead for more than a month after his season ended early due to injury. Wheeler was ruled out for the season on Aug. 23 with a diagnosis of venous thoracic outlet syndrome.
The three other starting pitchers on Box-Toppers’ year-end NL All-Star team are:
Wheeler, 20.1 Box-Toppers points, second among NL pitchers, third overall.
Nick Pivetta of the Padres, 17.7 points, third among NL pitchers, sixth overall.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Dodgers, 17.7 points, fourth among NL pitchers, seventh overall.
Top batters
Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies led all batters with 12.0 Box-Toppers points. That also led NL batters and NL designated hitters. Schwarber ranked 24th among all players.
George Springer of the Blue Jays had 9.7 Box-Toppers points, leading all AL batters and AL designated hitters. Springer ranked 46th among all players. Springer’s 9.7 is the lowest Box-Toppers point total to lead any category in a regular-length season since tracking began in 1995. The previous record low was 10.7 points by Nolan Arenado of the Rockies to lead NL batters in 2016.
MVPs Judge, Ohtani not on B-T’s All-Star teams
Neither league Most Valuable Player Award winner is included on Box-Toppers 2025 year-end All-Star teams:
Aaron Judge of the Yankees, who won AL MVP, earned 6.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 20th among AL batters, fourth among AL designated hitters and eighth among AL outfielders. Despite his impressive numbers in 2025, he often did not win Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in Yankees victories because a teammate performed better in the game. Judge led the AL in batting average (.331), slugging percentage (.688), runs (137) and ranked second in the AL in home runs (53) and runs batted in (114).
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers, who won NL MVP, earned 5.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 27th among NL batters, 11th among NL designated hitters and 55th among NL pitchers. Like Judge, Ohtani put up impressive offensive numbers, leading the NL in runs scored (146), total bases (380), slugging percentage (.622) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.014). He was second among NL batters in home runs (55) behind Schwarber (56). But also like Judge, a teammate was frequently the key player in his team’s victories.
Judge and Ohtani each had made Box-Toppers year-end All-Star teams for four straight seasons from 2021 to 2024, which was tied for the longest active streak in 2024. But that streak now ends for both in 2025 despite their impressive stats and honors outside of Box-Toppers.
Juan Soto has now made Box-Toppers year-end All-Stars for the third straight season, now the longest active streak among all players and has now done it on three separate teams. Soto is the third-ranked NL outfielder in 2025 with the Mets. In 2024, he was the was second-ranked AL outfielder with the Yankees. And in 2023, he was the third-ranked NL outfielder with the Padres.
Mets, Red Sox lead all teams
Two teams each have three members on Box-Toppers’ AL and NL All-Star teams:
New York Mets
Pete Alonso, who ranks first among NL first basemen (7.2 points).
Juan Soto, who ranks third among NL outfielders (6.0 points).
Edwin Díaz, who ranks first among NL closing pitchers (8.0 points).
Two of the players have left the Mets for other teams in 2026—Alonso to the Orioles and Díaz to the Dodgers.
Boston Red Sox
Trevor Story, who leads AL shortstops (8.0).
Wilyer Abreu, who ranks second among AL outfielders (8.5).
Garrett Crochet, who ranks second among AL starting pitchers (19.8).
Five other teams each have two representatives on the All-Star teams:
Toronto Blue Jays—George Springer, AL DH; Jeff Hoffman, AL CP.
Seattle Mariners—Bryan Woo, AL SP; Luis Castillo, AL SP.
Detroit Tigers—Riley Greene, AL OF; Tarik Skubal, AL OF.
San Diego Padres—Manny Machado, NL 3B; Nick Pivetta, NL SP.
Philadelphia Phillies—Kyle Schwarber, NL DH; Zack Wheeler, NL SP.
Only one player made Box-Toppers year-end All-Star teams from the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers—Yoshinobu Yamamoto, whose 17.7 Box-Toppers points was fourth among NL starting pitchers.
Ten of the 14 AL All-Stars made it to the postseason. Seven of the 14 NL All-Stars made it to the postseason.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day. (No Box-Toppers points are awarded in postseason games.)
