Angels pitcher Ryan Johnson is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Saturday’s spring training games.
Other top players Saturday include Giants pitcher Carson Whisenhunt, Red Sox pitcher Johan Oviedo, Jake McCarthy of the Rockies and Rhys Hoskins of the Guardians.
Player of the Day: Ryan Johnson, Angels
Johnson struck out four over four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 3-0 win over the Athletics.
Though he appeared in 14 games in 2025, Johnson has yet to earn regular-season Player of the Game honors and maintains rookie status for 2026.
NL Player of the Day: Carson Whisenhunt, Giants
Whisenhunt struck out five over three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 7-5 win over the Rangers. He received a no-decision as Texas briefly took the lead after his exit.
Like Johnson, Whisenhunt retains his 2026 rookie status after five appearances in 2025, earning no Player of the Game honors.
NL Batter of the Day: Jake McCarthy, Rockies
McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly and went 1-for-1, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-4 win over the Dodgers.
McCarthy earned 0.0 Box-Toppers points in 67 games in 2025 with the Diamondbacks. He has 6.0 career Box-Toppers points from 2022 to 2024, including 4.0 earned in 2024, 17th among National League outfielders.
AL Batter of the Day: Rhys Hoskins, Guardians
Hoskins homered and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 7-1 win over the Padres.
