Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Wednesday’s spring training games.
Joining him as daily honors recipients are Brice Turang (National League Player of the Day) and Aaron Zavala (American League Batter of the Day).
Player of the Day: Ryan Weathers, Yankees
Weathers struck out five over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 7-0 win over the Nationals.
Background: Acquired from the Marlins on Jan. 13 for four prospects, Weathers provides much-needed rotation depth as Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón work back from injuries.
History: He earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025 (114th among NL pitchers) and a career-high 5.0 points in 2024. But his recent seasons have been hampered by forearm, lat, and finger strains.
NL Player of the Day: Brice Turang, Brewers
Turang hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 13-12 win over the Giants.
Turang earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, ranking 15th among National League second basemen.
AL Batter of the Day: Aaron Zavala, Rangers
Zavala powered the Rangers to an 11-4 win over the Guardians, going 2-for-3 with two home runs (one a three-run shot) and four RBIs. Though he has 470 minor league games under his belt, Zavala has yet to make his MLB debut and currently holds 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.
NL Batter of the Day
There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Brice Turang.
Notable
Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers has the most 2025 Box-Toppers points among Wednesday’s spring training Player of the Game winners.
Rogers (3IP H 0R 0BB 3K ND in the 4-3 win over the Rays) earned 11.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 17th among AL pitchers.
Max Scherzer, 41, to re-sign with #BlueJays in 1yr/$3M deal. His 256.7 career Box-Toppers points is 3rd-most since 1995 & now most among active players. He earned 3.0 B-T points with TOR in 17 starts 2025. He was B-T Player of the Year: 2016 (#Nationals) & 2021 (WSH & #Dodgers).
