Mets pitcher Nolan McLean is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Thursday’s spring training games.

Other standout winners include Luken Baker (Diamondbacks), Brent Rooker (Athletics), and Paul Goldschmidt (Yankees), who earned top honors for the second time in three days.

Player of the Day: Nolan McLean, Mets

McLean struck out six over four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 5-0 win over the Astros.

Set to pitch for Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, McLean earned 7.7 Box-Toppers points in 2025—ranking 34th among NL pitchers and second among NL rookies behind the Cubs' Cade Horton (9.7).

AL Player of the Day: Brent Rooker, Athletics

Rooker homered and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 7-3 win over the Rangers.

Rooker earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 15th among American League designated hitters.

NL Batter of the Day is Luken Baker, Diamondbacks.

NL Batter of the Day: Luken Baker, Diamondbacks

Baker hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-1, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 13-10 win over the Royals.

Despite appearing in 73 Major League games over the last three seasons, Baker is still seeking his first regular-season Player of the Game honor (0.0 career points).

AL Batter of the Day

There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Thursday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Brent Rooker.

Paul Goldschmidt of the Yankees is the first player to earn Player of the Game honors twice this spring.

Notable

Paul Goldschmidt of the Yankees is the first player to earn Player of the Game honors twice this spring.

After a strong Thursday performance (HR 2-3 2R BI in the 7-3 win over the Athletics), he added to his "AL Player of the Day" honors from Tuesday.

Interestingly, Goldschmidt earned Player of the Game honors three times during the 2025 spring training season and then failed to earn any Player of the Game honors in his 146 regular season games that year.

However, the 38-year-old veteran holds 88.0 career points—ranking second among active batters (behind Freddie Freeman, 95.9) and first in the AL (ahead of Mike Trout, 87.2).

Also notable

Trevor Story of the Red Sox has the most 2025 Box-Toppers points among Thursday’s spring training Player of the Game winners.

Story (2-2B 2-3 R 2BI in the 7-5 win over the Rays) earned 8.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 10th among AL batters.

World Baseball Classic

Five of Thursday’s winners will soon depart to play for their nation in the World Baseball Classic:
