Astros closing pitcher Ryan Pressly is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Thursday’s World Series Game 5.

The Houston Astros win 3-2 to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven game series over the Philadelphia Phillies,, which resumes Saturday with Game 6 in Houston.

Pressly struck out two over 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, no walks and earning the save.

Pressly earned 6.0 Box-Toppers points in the regular season, 131st among all players, 49th among American League pitchers and second among AL closing pitchers, behind Scott Barlow of the Royals (7.0).

This was Pressly’s ninth appearance of the 2022 postseason, but his first Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor this postseason. He’s earned five saves as the Astros have gone 8-1 in those appearances.

World Series Game 6, Astros lead Phillies, 3-2

Saturday’s pitching matchups (for more, see matchups chart below):

Phillies—Zack Wheeler, 14.4 Box-Toppers points in 2022, 22nd overall and 11th among NL pitchers.

Astros—Framber Valdez, 16.0 Box-Toppers points in 2022, 14th overall and fifth among AL pitchers.

This is a rematch of last Saturday’s World Series Game 2 won by the Astros 5-2, in which Valdez earned Player of the Game honors.

Wheeler and Valdez are two of three players who have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors three times this postseason, most among all players. (The other is Padres closing pitcher Josh Hader.)

Wheeler was Player of the Game:
