Also Thursday, Astros pitcher Hunter Brown rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors, taking the lead among American League pitchers.
Other Player of the Game winners Thursday include Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw and Agustín Ramírez of the Marlins.
Player of the Day
Baz struck out nine over eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 4-0 win over the Royals.
Baz earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, 26th among all players and 13th among AL pitchers.
National League Player of the Day
Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw struck out five over six innings, allowing one run, two hits and one walk, in the 3-1 win over the Rockies.
Kershaw earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 45th among NL pitchers.
Kershaw also now has 276.1 career Box-Toppers points, second among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. He trails “all-time” leader Randy Johnson (282.5) by 6.4 points. (It should be noted that Johnson began his career in 1988, before the advent of Box-Toppers tracking. If his entire career were tracked, rough projections put his Box-Toppers point total at 380.)
Kershaw leads active players in career Box-Toppers points ahead of Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer (253.7). He leads active NL pitchers ahead of Giants pitcher Justin Verlander (247.0). (Neither Scherzer nor Verlander have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.)
National League Batter of the Day
Agustín Ramírez of the Marlins homered, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 12-5 win over the Giants.
Ramírez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, sixth among NL batters.
American League Batter of the Day
There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Thursday because no AL batter won Player of the Game honors in the nine games completed.
Rankings
Astros pitcher Hunter Brown rises from seventh to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday, taking the lead among American League pitchers.
Brown (7IP 3H 0R 0BB 9K ND in the 2-1 win over the Phillies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.4 for the season, trailing only Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (14.1 points). Brown rises to lead AL pitchers, passing previous leader Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox (11.1 points).

Notable
Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman now has 103.1 career Box-Toppers points, 84th-most among all players since tracking began in 1995, after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.
Gausman (8IP 2H 0R BB 6K W in the 6-0 win over the Guardians) passes two players on the “all-time” career points list with his 1.0 point Thursday: Ken Griffey Jr. (102.2) and Miguel Tejada (102.3). (It should be noted that Griffey began his career before Box-Toppers tracking began. He would have an estimated 140 career points if his career from 1989 were tracked.)
Gausman now trails 83rd-ranked player Jamie Moyer (104.0). (Moyer began his career in 1986, prior to the start of Box-Toppers tracking. Box-Toppers estimates he would have about 128 career points if his entire career were tracked.)
Gausman ranks 14th among active, signed players in career points, sixth among active AL pitchers.
He has 5.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025, 26th among AL pitchers.
Scoring
Baz earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.
Kershaw earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.
Ramírez earns 1.5 points for being NL Batter of the Day.
All of Thursday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
