Player of the Day

Torres homered and went 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 14-2 win over the Red Sox.

Torres earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 140th among all players, 20th among American League batters.

Torres becomes the fourth batter in 2025 to win overall Player of the Day honors, joining Jake Meyers of the Astros who did it May 3, Brandon Nimmo of the Mets who did it April 28 and Aaron Judge of the Yankees who did it March 29. Pitchers have won overall Player of the Day honors in the other 46 days of the season. In 2024, only five batters won Player of the Day honors in the 185 days of the season, with pitchers winning in 180 days.

National League Batter of the Day

Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly (7IP 8H R 0BB 8K W in the 2-1 win over the Giants) earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, giving him 3.7 for the season, 38th among all players and 16th among NL pitchers.

Kelly had a +5.0 Box-Toppers game score Monday, the same as Torres. But Torres won Player of the Day honors over Kelly on a tiebreaker—in cases of game score ties, batters rank higher than pitchers.

AL & NL Batter of the Day

There are no separate AL and NL Batters of the Day for Monday. There is no AL Batter of the Day because the overall Player of the Day is AL batter Gleyber Torres. There is no NL Batter of the Day because no NL batter won Player of the Game honors in the 11 games completed.

Rankings

Rangers pitcher Tyler Mahle rises to ninth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday.

Mahle (6.1IP 4H R BB 5K W in the 2-1 win over the Rockies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 5.7 for the season. He ranks fifth among AL pitchers.

With Mahle’s rise to ninth place, the only batter in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 falls from the list. Pete Alonso of the Mets, with 5.5 Box-Toppers points in 2025, falls to 11th place overall.

Scoring

  • Torres earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.

  • Kelly earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

  • All of Monday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
