Rays lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 10th week; Diamondbacks rise to NL lead

The Tampa Bay Rays maintain their lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the 10th straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2023 team rankings through games of Thursday, June 8. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from June 2 to June 8 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on June 1.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks pass the Los Angeles Dodgers to lead National League teams and the Miami Marlins are the week’s hottest team.

Rays players have accumulated 56.3 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 6.5 points in the past week. They lead over the second-place Texas Rangers (51.9) by 4.4 points and over the NL-leading Diamondbacks (45.5) by 10.8 points.

The Rays have baseball’s best winning percentage (0.708) and are led by pitcher Shane McClanahan (8.7 Box-Toppers points, fifth among all players and fourth among AL pitchers). Rays’ top batter is Randy Arozarena (6.0 points, third among AL batters). There are 19 different Rays players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

The Diamondbacks take the lead among NL teams with 45.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week and maintaining their fourth-place overall ranking. They pass the Dodgers, NL team leader for five previous weeks, who fall from third to fifth overall with 45.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

The Diamondbacks have the second-best winning percentage among NL teams (0.597), behind the Atlanta Braves (0.613), who are ninth overall in team rankings with 42.2 Box-Toppers points.

The Diamondbacks are led by pitcher Zac Gallen (8.7 points), fourth overall and first among NL pitchers. Top batter is Dominic Fletcher (2.7 points), 21st among NL batters. There are 22 different Diamondbacks players who have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

The Miami Marlins are the week’s hottest team, picking up 8.9 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from 16th to eighth place overall with 42.3 points. The Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies tied for the biggest jump in team rankings this week, both rising eight spots. The Phillies rose from 23rd to 15th overall with 36.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.7 in the past week.

The New York Mets had the biggest decline among all teams in the past week, falling six spots from 14th to 20th place with 33.7 points, picking up no points in the past week.

The Oakland Athletics rank 30th and last in Box-Toppers team rankings for the eighth week in a row with 16.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
