Rays maintain Box-Toppers team rankings lead for 3rd week, Brewers top NL teams

The Tampa Bay Rays maintain their lead in Box-Toppers team rankings for the third straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers final 2023 team rankings through games of Thursday, April 20. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April 14 to April 20 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on April 13.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers continue to lead National League teams and the Texas Rangers and New York Mets are the week’s hottest teams.

Rays players have accumulated 21.7 Box-Toppers points this season, picking up 3.0 points in the past week. They lead over the second-place Brewers (16.7) by 5.0 points and lead over second-place American League team, the Texas Rangers (15.7) by 6.0 points. The Rangers rank fourth overall.

The Rays have baseball’s best winning percentage (0.842) and are led by pitcher Drew Rasmussen (5.0 Box-Toppers points, first among all players). Top batter is Wander Franco (3.0 points, 16th overall and first among American League batters). Nine different Rays players have earned Box-Toppers points so far in 2023.

The Brewers lead NL teams for the third straight week. The Brewers rise from third to second place overall.

Brewers players have accumulated 16.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 points in the past week. The Brewers are tied for best winning percentage among NL teams (.737) with the Atlanta Braves, who rank sixth overall in Box-Toppers rankings with 14.5 points. The Brewers lead NL teams ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates (15.9 points, third overall).

The Brewers are led by designated hitter Jesse Winker (2.5 Box-Toppers points, fourth among NL batters). Brewers top pitcher is Brandon Woodruff (2.0 points, seventh among NL pitchers). There are 12 Brewers who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2023.

The Texas Rangers and New York Mets are the week’s hottest teams, each picking up 7.0 Box-Toppers points over the past week. The Rangers rise from 10th to fourth place overall with 15.7 Box-Toppers points. The Mets rise eight spots—the biggest jump of any team—from 16th place last week to eighth place this week with 14.0 Box-Toppers points.

The Minnesota Twins meanwhile drop seven spots in team rankings, the largest dip among all teams, from second last week to ninth this week with 14.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

The Oakland Athletics rank 30th and last in Box-Toppers team rankings with 3.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week. They were tied for 29th and last place last week. The Detroit Tigers, who were tied for 29th place last week, rise to 24th place with 8.0 points, picking up 5.0 in the past week.

That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
