Dodgers remain atop Box-Toppers team rankings with seasons’ final week ahead

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings report for the eighth straight week, with just one week to go in the season.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 29. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Sept. 23 to Sept. 29 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Sept. 22.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros maintain the lead among American League teams and the Detroit Tigers are the week’s hottest team.

Dodgers players have accumulated 130.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 in the past week. They lead National League teams for the 12th straight week, ahead of the Atlanta Braves (third overall with 125.0 points, picking up 5.0 in the past week). The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.692).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Julio Urias (19.4 Box-Toppers points, seventh among all players and fourth among NL pitchers). The Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (11.7 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). There are 26 different Dodgers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Astros rank second overall and lead among AL teams for the second straight week with 125.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.0 in the past week. They lead AL teams ahead of the New York Yankees (fifth overall with 121.2 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week). The Astros have the second-best winning percentage among all teams (.654) and best among AL teams.

The Astros are led by pitcher Justin Verlander (24.0 Box-Toppers points, second among all players and second among AL pitchers). The Astros top batter is Yordan Alvarez (8.7 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters). There are 24 different Astros players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Detroit Tigers are the week’s hottest team, picking up 6.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from 25th to 24th place overall with 70.4 Box-Toppers points.

The Cleveland Guardians and Los Angeles Angels both had the biggest jump in team rankings, rising two spots each. The Guardians rose rom 14th to 12th place with 101.5 points, picking up 5.5 in the past week. The Angels rose rom 20th to 18th place with 84.3 points, picking up 5.0 in the past week.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had the biggest decline, falling two spots from 18th to 20th place with 82.6 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds remain in 30th and last place for the 10th straight week with 52.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
