Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 7th week, Astros remain top AL team

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings report for the seventh straight week.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros maintain the lead among American League teams and the San Diego Padres are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 22. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Sept. 16 to Sept. 22 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Sept. 15.

Dodgers players have accumulated 126.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 in the past week. They lead National League teams for the 11th straight week, ahead of the Atlanta Braves (third overall with 120.0 points, picking up 6.2 in the past week). The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.693).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Julio Urias (18.4 Box-Toppers points, fifth among all players and second among NL pitchers). The Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (11.7 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). There are 25 different Dodgers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Astros rank second overall and lead among AL teams for the second straight week with 121.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.7 in the past week. They lead AL teams ahead of the New York Yankees (fifth overall with 117.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 4.5 in the past week). The Astros have the second-best winning percentage among all teams (.656) and best among AL teams.

The Astros are led by pitcher Justin Verlander (24.0 Box-Toppers points, first among all players). The Astros top batter is Yordan Alvarez (8.7 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters). There are 24 different Astros players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The San Diego Padres are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from eighth to seventh place overall with 108.7 Box-Toppers points.

The Milwaukee Brewers had the biggest jump in team rankings, rising three spots from 13th to 10th place with 99.2 points, picking up 6.2 in the past week.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had the biggest decline, falling two spots from 27th to 29th place with 54.0 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds remain in 30th and last place for the ninth straight week with 51.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
