Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 6th week, Astros regain AL team lead

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings report for the sixth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, Sept. 15. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Sept. 9 to Sept. 15 . The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Sept. 8.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros, the week’s hottest team, regain the lead among American League teams.

Dodgers players have accumulated 120.4 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week. They lead National League teams for the 10th straight week, ahead of the Atlanta Braves (who fall from second to third overall with 113.8 points, picking up 2.0 in the past week). The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.690).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Julio Urias (16.4 Box-Toppers points, seventh among all players and fourth among NL pitchers). The Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (11.7 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). There are 25 different Dodgers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Astros regain the lead among AL teams, passing the New York Yankees, who led for the past two weeks. Astros players have accumulated 114.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 8.7 in the past week, most among all teams. The Astros also have the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, rising three spots from fifth to second overall. The Astros pass the Yankees, who fall from third to fourth overall with 111.7 points, picking up 4.0 in the past week. The Astros have the second-best winning percentage among all teams (.653) and best among AL teams. The Astros previously led AL teams the weeks of Aug. 18 and Aug. 25.

The Astros are led by pitcher Justin Verlander (22.0 Box-Toppers points, first among all players). The Astros top batter is Yordan Alvarez (8.7 Box-Toppers points, fourth among AL batters). There are 24 different Astros players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

Most teams maintained their team ranking spot from last week. There were six teams that each dropped one spot in team rankings, tied for the biggest decline—the Atlanta Braves (second to third), New York Yankees (third to fourth), New York Mets (fourth to fifth), Baltimore Orioles (15th to 16th), Detroit Tigers (24th to 25th) and Washington Nationals (27th to 28th).

The Cincinnati Reds remain in 30th and last place for the eighth straight week with 49.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
