Dodgers lead team rankings for 3rd week, Astros maintain AL team lead

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead Box-Toppers team rankings report for the third straight week.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros continue to lead American League teams and the St. Louis Cardinals are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, Aug. 25. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 19 to Aug. 25. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Aug. 18.

Dodgers players have accumulated 105.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.5 in the past week. They lead National League teams for the seventh straight week, ahead of the Atlanta Braves (second overall with 100.6 points, picking up 5.7 in the past week). The Dodgers also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.699).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Julio Urias (15.4 Box-Toppers points, fifth among all players and second among NL pitchers). The Dodgers top batter is Mookie Betts (9.0 Box-Toppers points, second among NL batters). There are 24 different Dodgers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Astros lead AL teams for the second straight week. Astros players have accumulated 99.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week, falling from third to fourth place among all teams, behind the Dodgers (105.7), Braves (100.6) and New York Mets (99.5). They are 1.0 point ahead of the second-place AL team, the New York Yankees (98.0). The Astros have the best winning percentage among AL teams (.643).

The Astros are led by pitcher Justin Verlander (21.0 Box-Toppers points, first among all players). The Astros top batter is Yordan Alvarez (8.7 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters). There are 22 different Astros players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the week’s hottest team, picking up 8.7 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The Cardinals rise three spots in team rankings from ninth to sixth place with 91.4 Box-Toppers points.

The Texas Rangers had the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, rising four spots, from 22nd to 18th place with 66.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 points in the past week.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had the biggest drop in Box-Toppers team rankings this week, falling three spots from 20th to 23rd place, picking up no points in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds remain in 30th and last place for the fifth straight week with 40.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.7 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
