Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Sunday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors—White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease rises to fourth place and Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole rises to eighth.

Player of the Day—Nola struck out 10 over 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk, in the 4-0 win over the Marlins.

Nola earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 9.0 for the season, 19th among all players and ninth among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 11-0 win over the Twins.

Cease earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 14.7 for the season, rising from fourth to third place in season player rankings. He also ranks third among AL pitchers, behind Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (17.0) and Justin Verlander of the Astros (15.0).

White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease is Sunday’s Box-Toppers AL Player of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Brett Phillips of the Rays hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-5 win over the Orioles.

National League Batter of the Day—Brandon Belt of the Giants homered and went 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 9-5 win over the Brewers.

Belt has now earned Box-Toppers points in 12 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2022. He earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2011 with the Giants and has 43.2 career points, seventh among active NL first basemen. His best season were 2016 and 2021, both with the Giants, when he had 7.0 points each season. He ranked sixth among NL first basemen in 2016 and third among NL first basemen in 2021.

Rankings—Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole rises from ninth to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.

Cole (7IP 4H 2R 0BB 12K W in the 13-2 win over the Red Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.4 for the season. He ranks fifth among AL pitchers.

Cole also now has 134.3 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 34th among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 1.0 point Sunday, he passes Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg (133.8) and Dodgers pitcher David Price (134.0) on the “all-time” list. He now trails 33rd-ranked player, Diamondbacks pitcher Madison Bumgarner (136.4). Cole now ranks 10th among active players in career points, fourth among active AL pitchers.
