The Milwaukee Brewers, the week’s hottest team, rise to lead Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, May. 5. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from April. 29 to May 5. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on April 28.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Angels, last week’s overall leader, fall to second place, but still lead American League teams.

Brewers players have accumulated 25.7 Box-Toppers points, most of any team, rising from fourth place overall last week and picking up 9.1 points in the past week, most of any team. The Brewers pass last week’s top National League team, the New York Mets, which fall from third to fourth overall with 21.7 Box-Toppers points, second among NL teams.

The Brewers have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.692), behind the New York Yankees (.720) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (.696). The Yankees are third in Box-Toppers team rankings with 21.8 points and the Dodgers are fifth with 20.0.

The Brewers are led by pitcher Brandon Woodruff (4.7 Box-Toppers points, sixth overall and fourth among NL pitchers). The Brewers top batter is Willy Adames (3.4 Box-Toppers points, third among NL batters). There are 12 different Brewers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022. 

The Angels fall from first to second overall with 23.7 Box-Toppers points, but still lead AL teams, ahead of the Yankees (21.8). The Angels picked up 5.5 points in the past week. The Angels have the second-best winning percentage among AL teams (.630), behind the Yankees (.720).

The Angels are led by Shohei Ohtani, whose 7.0 Box-Toppers points leads all players. Ohtani also leads both AL pitchers and AL batters. He has earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors four times in 2022, twice as designated hitter (earning 3.0 points) and twice as starting pitcher (earning 4.0 points). There are 12 different Angels players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022. 

The Tampa Bay Rays made the biggest jump in Box-Toppers team rankings, rising eight spots from 14th to sixth place with 19.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 7.5 in the past week.

The Oakland Athletics had the biggest drop in the past week, falling nine spots from 18th to 27th place with 10.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds are in 30th and last place for the third straight week with 3.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
