Milwaukee Brewers lead Box-Toppers team rankings for 2nd week

The Milwaukee Brewers maintain the lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the second week.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees remain top American League team and the Boston Red Sox are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, May. 26. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 20 to May 26. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on May 19.

Brewers players have accumulated 40.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 points in the past week. The Brewers have baseball’s third-best winning percentage (.644), behind the Yankees (.711) and Los Angeles Dodgers (.682) and tied with the Houston Astros (.644). The Yankees are second in Box-Toppers team rankings (39.0 Box-Toppers points), the Dodgers are third (37.0) and the Astros are fifth (35.9).

This is the fourth straight week the Brewers have led National League teams.

The Brewers are led by pitcher Eric Lauer (6.7 Box-Toppers points, fifth overall and second among NL pitchers). The Brewers top batter is Willy Adames (3.4 Box-Toppers points, 10th among NL batters). There are 14 different Brewers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Yankees lead AL teams for the third week with 39.0 Box-Toppers points, maintaining their second-place overall ranking, and picked up 4.7 points in the past week. They have baseball’s best winning percentage (.711).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Nestor Cortes (7.4 Box-Toppers points, second among all players and second among AL pitchers). The Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (4.5 Box-Toppers points, fourth among AL batters). There are 16 different Yankees players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Boston Red Sox are the week’s hottest team for the second straight week, picking up 7.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week. The Red Sox now have 26.2 Box-Toppers points, rising from 20th to 12th among all teams. The eight-spot rise in rankings is also the biggest jump of all teams this week. The Red Sox were also last week’s hottest team and have picked up a total of 14.0 points in the past two weeks, rising from 27th to 12th place since May 12.

The Los Angeles Dodgers also picked up 7.0 points in the past week, but rose only two spots from fifth to third place overall with 37.0 points.

Two teams each had four-spot declines in team rankings, tied for the most among all teams:

  • The New York Mets fell from fourth to eighth place with 33.9 points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

  • The Kansas City Royals fell from 25th to 29th place with 17.7 points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds are in 30th and last place for the sixth straight week with 15.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
