Here are Box-Toppers 2022 team rankings through games of Thursday, May. 19. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from May 13 to May 19. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on May 12.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees, last week’s overall leader, fall to second place, but still lead American League teams. Plus, the Boston Red Sox are the week’s hottest team.

Brewers players have accumulated 35.5 Box-Toppers points, rising from second to first overall, picking up 6.4 points in the past week. The Brewers regain the overall lead after leading all teams the week ending May 5. This is the third straight week the Brewers have led National League teams.

The Brewers are tied for fifth among teams in winning percentage (.632), behind the Yankees (.737), Los Angeles Dodgers (.676), New York Mets (.650), Houston Astros (.641) and tied with the San Diego Padres (.632). Here’s how those five teams fare in current Box-Toppers team rankings:

  • Yankees rank second with 34.3 Box-Toppers points.

  • Dodgers rank fifth with 30.0.

  • Mets rank fourth with 30.9.

  • Astros rank seventh with 29.9.

  • Padres rank sixth with 29.9.

The Brewers are led by pitcher Eric Lauer (5.7 Box-Toppers points, seventh overall and third among NL pitchers). The Brewers top batter is Willy Adames (3.4 Box-Toppers points, eighth among NL batters). There are 12 different Brewers players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Yankees lead AL teams for the second week, but fall from first to second overall with 34.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.0 in the past week. They have baseball’s best winning percentage (.737).

The Yankees are led by pitcher Nestor Cortes (5.7 Box-Toppers points, ninth among all players and fourth among AL pitchers). The Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (4.5 Box-Toppers points, fourth among AL batters). There are 14 different Yankees players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.

The Boston Red Sox are the week’s hottest team, picking up 7.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week most of any team, and now have 19.2 Box-Toppers points, rising from 27th to 20th among all teams. The seven-spot rise in rankings is also the biggest jump of all teams this week.

The Cleveland Guardians had the biggest decline among all teams this week, falling seven spots, from 15th to 22nd with 18.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week.

The Cincinnati Reds are in 30th and last place for the fifth straight week with 11.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
