Los Angeles Dodgers expand lead in Box-Toppers team rankings

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the fourth straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings through games of Thursday, Aug. 19. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 13 to Aug. 19. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Aug. 12.

Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox maintain their lead among American League teams and the New York Yankees are the week’s hottest team.

Dodgers players have accumulated 108.8 Box-Toppers points in 2021, picking up 8.0 points in the past week, most among National League teams. Their lead over the second-place White Sox (93.9) expands from 6.9 points last week to 11.9 points this week. 

The Dodgers have a winning percentage of .623, second-best among all teams, behind the San Francisco Giants (.645), who rank seventh in Box-Toppers team rankings with 89.4 points. The Dodgers are 2 1/2 games behind the Giants in the National League West.

The Dodgers lead NL teams in Box-Toppers team rankings, ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers (93.8).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Max Scherzer with 14.4 Box-Toppers points, seventh overall and fifth among National League pitchers. The Dodgers top batter is Max Muncy with 6.0 Box-Toppers points, 11th among NL batters. So far this season, 28 different players on the Dodgers roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The White Sox lead AL teams for the 11th straight week and rank second overall with 96.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week. They have led AL teams for 15 of the past 16 weeks.

The White Sox have the third-best winning percentage among AL teams (.582), behind the Tampa Bay Rays (.615) and Houston Astros (.587). The Rays are 11th in Box-Toppers team rankings (86.1 Box-Toppers points) and the Astros are 10th (87.0).

The White Sox lead AL teams in Box-Toppers team rankings ahead of the New York Yankees (95.1 points).

The White Sox are led by pitcher Lance Lynn with 10.7 Box-Toppers points, sixth among AL pitchers. White Sox’ top batter is Jose Abreu with 7.0 Box-Toppers points, sixth among AL batters. So far this season, 26 different players on the White Sox roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The New York Yankees are the week’s hottest team, gaining 9.5 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from sixth to third in team rankings with 95.1 Box-Toppers points. The Yankees won all seven games they played this week. Four of the Yankees who won Player of the Game honors this week also won bonus Box-Toppers points, including three who won AL Batter of the Day (worth 1.5 total points) and pitcher Gerrit Cole, who won overall Player of the Day honors worth 2.0 total points on Monday.

The Yankees’ three-spot climb in team rankings is tied for the biggest rise in the past week with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who also rose three spots from 28th to 25th with 42.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 points in the past week.

The Philadelphia Phillies had the biggest drop in Box-Toppers team rankings, falling four spots from fifth to ninth place with 87.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.

The Chicago Cubs fell from 29th to 30th and last place this week with 34.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week. The Texas Rangers, the lowest-ranked team for the previous three weeks, rose to 29th place with 34.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
