Los Angeles Dodgers maintain Box-Toppers team rankings lead for 3rd straight week

The Los Angeles Dodgers maintain their lead in Box-Toppers weekly team rankings report for the third straight week.

Here are Box-Toppers 2021 team rankings through games of Thursday, Aug. 12. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 6 to Aug. 12. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank on Aug. 5.

Meanwhile, the Chicago White Sox maintain their lead among American League teams and the San Francisco Giants are the week’s hottest team.

Dodgers players have accumulated 100.8 Box-Toppers points in 2021. Their lead over the second-place White Sox (93.9) narrows to 6.9 points from 9.1 points last week.

The Dodgers have a winning percentage of .600, fourth-best among all teams, behind the San Francisco Giants (.643), Tampa Bay Rays (.609) and Milwaukee Brewers (.603). The Giants are ninth in Box-Toppers team rankings (84.9 Box-Toppers points), the Rays are 12th (80.9) and the Brewers are third (92.6).

The Dodgers are led by pitcher Max Scherzer with 14.4 Box-Toppers points, sixth overall and fifth among National League pitchers. Top Dodgers batter is Max Muncy with 5.0 Box-Toppers points, 16th among NL batters. So far this season, 26 different players on the Dodgers roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The White Sox lead AL teams for the 10th straight week and rank second overall with 93.9 Box-Toppers points. They have led AL teams for 14 of the past 15 weeks.

The White Sox have the third-best winning percentage among AL teams (.586), behind the Tampa Bay Rays (.609) and Houston Astros (.596). The Rays are 12th in Box-Toppers team rankings (80.9 Box-Toppers points) and the Astros are 10th (83.0).

The White Sox are led by pitcher Lance Lynn with 10.7 Box-Toppers points, sixth among AL pitchers. White Sox’ top batter is Jose Abreu with 7.0 Box-Toppers points, fourth among AL batters. So far this season, 26 different players on the White Sox roster have earned Player of the Game honors.

The San Francisco Giants are the week’s hottest team, gaining 7.5 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team, rising from 11th to ninth in team rankings with 84.9 Box-Toppers points. The Giants won five of their six games this week. Their two-spot rise from 11th to ninth is also the biggest climb among all teams in rankings.

The Boston Red Sox had the biggest drop in Box-Toppers team rankings, falling three spots from fifth to eighth place with 85.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.7 in the past week.

The Chicago Cubs were the only team to lose points this week with a net loss of 2.0 Box-Toppers points. The Cubs lost all seven games they played this week and on Thursday released pitcher Jake Arrieta, who had earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2021.

The Texas Rangers maintain their spot in 30th and last place for the third straight week with 31.5 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.5 points in the past week.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
