Meanwhile, Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom rises to lead National League pitchers, Luke Voit of the Yankees rises to lead American League batters and Adam Duvall of the Braves maintains his lead among NL batters.

Bieber has 9.7 Box-Toppers points through the games of Sept. 17, gaining no Box-Toppers points in the past week (and last earning Player of the Game honors on Sept. 6). Bieber also leads AL pitchers, ahead of Lance Lynn of the Rangers (9.1 points).

Jacob deGrom of the Mets rises to retake the Box-Toppers points lead among NL pitchers with 8.7 Box-Toppers points, passing Yu Darvish of the Cubs (8.7), who falls to second place. Though deGrom and Darvish both have 8.7 Box-Toppers points in 2020, deGrom ranks ahead because he has more 2019 Box-Toppers points—19.1 vs. 10.4. deGrom ranks third among all players in 2020 Box-Toppers points.

Luke Voit of the Yankees rises to retake the Box-Toppers points lead among AL batters with 6.0, passing last week’s leader, Kyle Tucker of the Astros (5.0), who falls to third place. Voit leads second-place AL batter Eloy Jimenez of the White Sox (5.5). Voit ranks 14th among all players in 2020 Box-Toppers points.

Adam Duvall of the Braves maintains his lead among NL batters for the second week with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, earning no points in the past week. Duvall leads second-place NL batter Jason Heyward of the Cubs (3.7 points). Duvall ranks 37th among all players.

So far this season, 451 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 119 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points. There are 77 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut so far this season—six in the past week—the first time in their career they earned Player of the Game honors. There have been 747 games completed in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season in which 900 are scheduled, meaning 83.0 percent of scheduled games have been played.

This is the penultimate (and also next-to-last) player rankings report of the 2020 season. While normally posted on Fridays—as this is—next week, we will delay the weekly report, waiting until after the regular season’s final games are finished on Sunday, Sept. 27, to post the final—the ultimate—Box-Toppers season player rankings report of 2020.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
