The Los Angeles Dodgers rise to lead Box-Toppers weekly team rankings.

Meanwhile, the Oakland Athletics maintain their lead among American League teams and the Cleveland Indians are the week’s hottest team.

Here are Box-Toppers 2020 season team rankings, through the games of Thursday, Aug. 20. The column BTP shows the number of Box-Toppers points players on the team accumulated this season. The column BTP/wk shows have many points teams accumulated from Aug. 14 to Aug. 20. The column Wk ago shows the team's rank as of Aug. 13.

Dodgers players have accumulated 24.1 Box-Toppers points through the games of Aug. 20, picking up 7.4 points in the past week, most among all National League teams. They have baseball’s best winning percentage (.704). The Dodgers passed the Chicago Cubs, who led Box-Toppers weekly team rankings each of the first three weeks of the 2020 season. The Cubs fall to third overall with 22.3 Box-Toppers points, picking up 3.0 points in the past week.

The Dodgers are led by pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin, both with 3.7 Box-Toppers points. Among NL pitchers, Kershaw ranks eighth and Gonslin ranks 11th. Kershaw ranks higher than Gonsolin because he has more 2019 Box-Toppers points—12.7 vs. 3.0. Enrique Hernandez leads Dodgers batters with 2.0 Box-Toppers points, ninth among NL batters. Fifteen different Dodgers players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Athletics lead AL teams with 22.6 Box-Toppers points, maintaining their rank at second overall. The Athletics earned 5.7 points in the past week. The Athletics have baseball’s second-best winning percentage (.692), highest in the AL.

The Athletics are led by pitcher Frankie Montas with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, 10th overall and fifth among AL pitchers. Top batter is Stephen Piscotty with 1.7 Box-Toppers points. Eleven different Athletics players have earned Box-Toppers points so far this season.

The Indians are the hottest team of the week, earning 7.7 Box-Toppers points between Aug. 14 and 20, a period in which they went 6-0. The Indians rose four spots from 10th to sixth in team rankings with 19.4 Box-Toppers points.

The Toronto Blue Jays rise the furthest in team rankings, rising 12 spots from 25th to 13th overall with 15.2 Box-Toppers points, earning 7.5 in the past week.

The Detroit Tigers fall the furthest in team rankings, dropping 11 spots from 17th to 28th with 9.5 points, earning 0.0 points in the past week, going 0-7.

The Pittsburgh Pirates fall to 30th and last place in Box-Toppers team rankings with 4.0 Box-Toppers points, earning 0.0 points in the past week, going 0-4. Last week’s lowest-ranked team, the St. Louis Cardinals, rise to 29th place with 8.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 6.0 points in the past week.

Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
