The Phillies have six players on the list, followed by three teams that have five each—the Cleveland Guardians, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals.

Two of those teams are among Box-Toppers point leaders for 2026—the Dodgers lead team rankings while the Phillies rank third. Meanwhile, the Guardians rank 11th and the Cardinals rank 18th.

The Milwaukee Brewers, who rank second in team rankings, have four players among the top 100. The New York Yankees, who rank fourth overall and first among American League teams, have just two players on the list.

Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski leads the top 100 list with 15.0 Box-Toppers points. Blue Jays pitcher Dylan Cease, who leads American League players with 14.4 Box-Toppers points, ranks third overall.

Philadelphia Phillies

Here are the six Phillies players on the list, with their overall rank shown, their position and their season Box-Toppers point total:

2. Cristopher Sánchez, starting pitcher, 14.7

7. Zack Wheeler, starting pitcher, 13.0

8. Jesús Luzardo, starting pitcher, 13.0

35. Kyle Schwarber, designated hitter, 6.7

78. Jhoan Duran, closing pitcher, 5.0

94. Aaron Nola, starting pitcher, 4.7

The Phillies rank third in Box-Toppers team rankings with their players accumulating 71.3 Box-Toppers points in 2026, including a combined 57.1 by their six players in the top 100.

Athletics have fewest players in top 100

All 30 teams have at least one player on the top 100. The Athletics have the fewest with just one: First baseman Nick Kurtz, whose 7.0 Box-Toppers points rank 31st overall, first among American League batters.

Top 100 breakdown by position

Pitchers comprise the overwhelming majority of top 100 players—there are 74 pitchers (67 starters, six closers and one middle reliever) in the top 100 list and only 26 batters.

Since 2015, that’s above the 72.5 average number of pitchers in the top 100 at midseason but well below the record-shattering 87 pitchers that were among the top 100 in 2024 at the All-Star break.

Here is a look at the number of pitchers among the midseason top 100 in recent seasons.

Top 100 pitchers at All-Star break

Pitchers historically make up the overwhelming majority of Box-Toppers’ top 100 midseason player rankings. The table below tracks the number of pitchers in the top 100 at the All-Star break from 2015 to 2026.
Column Guide:
  • All: Total pitchers
  • SP: Starting pitchers
  • CP: Closing pitchers
  • MR: Middle relievers
  • Note: 2020 is omitted because the season's All-Star Game was canceled due to the pandemic.

    Top 100 by team

The Philadelphia Phillies have the most players (six) among Box-Toppers’ top 100 at the All-Star break. Here is a look at how many players each team has among the overall top 100.

    Team Players
    Phillies 6
    Guardians 5
    Dodgers 5
    Cardinals 5
    D-backs 4
    Red Sox 4
    Tigers 4
    Astros 4
    Brewers 4
    Padres 4
    Mariners 4
    Rays 4
    Rangers 4
    Angels 3
    Braves 3
    Cubs 3
    Reds 3
    Marlins 3
    Royals 3
    Twins 3
    Mets 3
    Pirates 3
    Giants 3
    Orioles 2
    White Sox 2
    Rockies 2
    Nationals 2
    Yankees 2
    Blue Jays 2
    Athletics 1

Here is the position-by-position breakdown of players (if a player played more than one position, then their primary position—the one at which they most often earned Player of the Game honors—is used):

    • 67—Starting pitcher

    • 8—Outfield

    • 6—Closing pitcher

    • 6—First base

    • 3—Designated hitter

    • 3—Shortstop

    • 2—Catcher

    • 2—Third base

    • 2—Second base

    • 1—Middle relief

It should be noted that one of the players in the top 100—Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers—qualifies to rank among both batters and pitchers, but is included as a pitcher in this breakdown since the majority of his Player of the Game honors (seven of 12) have come as a pitcher. Ohtani’s 13.7 points rank fifth overall, third among National League pitchers and first among NL batters. However, looked at separately, his 8.7 points earned as a pitcher would rank 13th among NL pitchers and his 5.0 points earned as a designated hitter would rank 13th among NL batters.

    Newcomers among top 100 players

There are six players on the top 100 list who have made their Box-Toppers debut in 2026, each having earned Player of the Game honors for the first time in their career this season:

    • 21. Foster Griffin, Nationals, starting pitcher, 9.4 points, 11th among National League pitchers.

    • 24. Chase Burns, Reds, starting pitcher, 8.0 points, 13th among NL pitchers.

    • 55. Payton Tolle, Red Sox, starting pitcher, 6.0 points, 24th among AL pitchers.

    • 64. Tatsuya Imai, Astros, starting pitcher, 5.7 points, 29th among AL pitchers.

    • 92. Wade Meckler, Angels, left fielder, 5.0 points, tied for eighth among AL batters.

    • 92. Kazuma Okamoto, Blue Jays, third baseman, 5.0 points, tied for eighth among AL batters.

Meckler and Okamoto are the highest-ranking batters making their Box-Toppers debut in 2026. They are the rare players tied in Box-Toppers rankings because season point ties are broken using previous season point totals—and neither player earned points before 2026.

Five of those six players’ rookie status is intact for 2026, meaning they would qualify for Rookie of the Year awards. Only Burns, who exceeded rookie limits in 2025 (playing in 13 games), would not be eligible for the award.

The highest-ranking NL batters making their Box-Toppers debut in 2026 are these three, who are tied for 143rd in overall rankings and tied for 30th among NL batters:

    • Carson Benge, Mets, right fielder, 4.0 points

    • Griffin Conine, Marlins, left fielder, 4.0 points

    • JJ Wetherholt, Cardinals, second baseman, 4.0 points

Benge and Wetherholt both qualify as rookies in 2026. Conine exceeded his rookie status in 2025.

There are 112 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut this season, earning their first career Player of the Game honor in 2026.

How last year’s leaders are faring

Among the four main category leaders in Box-Toppers points for the full 2025 season, none are currently leading their category:

    • Tarik Skubal of the Tigers, who led all players in 2025 with 22.1, currently ranks 56th overall with 5.7 points, 25th among AL pitchers.

    • Paul Skenes of the Pirates, who led NL pitchers with 21.1, currently ranks 13th overall with 10.0 points, seventh among NL pitchers.

    • Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies, who led NL batters with 12.0, currently ranks 35th overall with 6.7 points, fifth among NL batters.

    • George Springer of the Blue Jays, who led AL batters with 9.7, currently ranks 416th overall with 1.0 point, 97th among AL batters.

    Box-Toppers

Tracking who most helps their teams win the most games, based on box score stats. A method to measure & compare baseball's top players.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
