About Box-Toppers’ team abbreviations
Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski rises to lead Box-Toppers player rankings, passing previous leader Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez.
Also, Dylan Cease of the Blue Jays climbs to first place among American League pitchers in 2026 Box-Toppers points, passing Cam Schlittler of the Yankees.
Other Box-Toppers category leader remain unchanged since the last player rankings report July 2:
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers leads National League batters.
Nick Kurtz of the Athletics leads AL batters.
While Box-Toppers player rankings reports usually post on Fridays, the All-Star break has altered the routine. This report was held until after Sunday’s games to capture the complete first “half” of the season—even though nearly 60% of the schedule is complete. There will be no report on Friday, July 17, given that only a single game is scheduled for Thursday, July 16. Regular Friday rankings reports will resume on July 24.
Misiorowski leads
Misiorowski jumps from second place on July 2 to first place with 15.0 Box-Toppers points, passing Sánchez, who had led the previous six player rankings reports, going back to May 28. Sánchez falls to second place with 14.7 points.
Misiorowski, who passed Sánchez on July 7, also takes the lead among NL pitchers.
American League pitchers
Dylan Cease of the Blue Jays climbs to first place with 14.4 Box-Toppers points, passing previous leader Cam Schlittler of the Yankees (13.7 points), who falls to second place.
Cease ranks third overall.
National League batters
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers leads for the eighth straight report with 13.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point since July 2. He leads over second-place NL batter, Dansby Swanson of the Cubs (8.2 points).
Ohtani ranks fifth overall.
Ohtani has earned Player of the Game honors 12 times this season—five as a batter (5.0 points) and seven as a starting pitcher (8.7 points). Because at least 25% of his honors came from each role (41.7% batting, 58.3% pitching), he qualifies to rank at both positions with his full 13.7-point total.
Looked at individually, his 8.7 points as a pitcher would rank 13th among NL pitchers and his 5.0 points as a designated hitter would rank 13th among NL batters.
American League batters
Nick Kurtz of the Athletics leads for the sixth straight report with 7.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points since July 2. He leads over second-place Yordan Alvarez of the Astros (6.5 points).
Kurtz ranks 31st overall.
Box-Toppers almanac
Batters’ share of Player of the Game honors decreased slightly. Batters won in 55 of the 140 games played since July 2 (39.3%), while pitchers won in 85 (60.7).
Batters’ share of Box-Toppers points overall this season decreased from 40.2% last week to 40.1% this week.
Batters have won fewer than 40% of all Box-Toppers points awarded in four of the past five seasons (surpassing it only in 2023 at 40.7%) and set a record-low share of 37.2% in 2024.
While batters have struggled to reach parity with pitchers in recent seasons, it wasn’t always this way: From 1995 to 2009, batters generally won half or more of all Box-Toppers points each season. But their share of points dropped precipitously after 2009.
About Box-Toppers
