Also Wednesday, Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez bolsters his lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. In addition, Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani rises to second place in season player rankings, earning Player of the Game honors for a second straight day. He did it Tuesday as a designated hitter and Wednesday as a starting pitcher.

Other Player of the Game winners Wednesday include Bo Bichette of the Mets, White Sox pitcher Erick Fedde and José Ramírez of the Guardians.

Player of the Day: Logan Webb, Giants

Webb struck out four over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 1-0 win over the Brewers.

Webb gave up his only hit—a single to Brice Turang—with one out in the seventh inning.

Webb earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 174th in season player rankings, 46th among National League pitchers. This was his 10th start of the season.

AL Player of the Day: Erick Fedde, White Sox

Fedde struck out two over five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 8-0 win over the Twins.

Fedde earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points as American League Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, 49th among AL pitchers.

AL Player of the Day: Erick Fedde, White Sox.

NL Batter of the Day: Bo Bichette, Mets

Bichette hit a sacrifice fly and went 4-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 7-1 win over the Mariners.

NL Batter of the Day: Bo Bichette, Mets.

AL Batter of the Day: José Ramírez, Guardians

Ramírez homered and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in one run, in the 5-4 win over the Yankees.

AL Batter of the Day: José Ramírez, Guardians.

Leader: Cristopher Sánchez, Phillies

Sánchez (7IP 4H R BB 8K W in the 3-2 win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.7 for the season. He leads ahead of second-place player, Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani (10.7 points) and also leads NL pitchers over Ohtani.

Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez bolsters his lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Rankings: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers

Ohtani rises from fifth to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.

Ohtani (6IP 2H 0R BB 6K W in the 7-0 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season, trailing Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez (11.7) in overall rankings and among NL pitchers.

This was the second straight day Ohtani earned Player of the Game honors. He did it Tuesday as a designated hitter (3B 2B 2-4 2R 2BI in the 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks) and Wednesday as a starting pitcher.

Ohtani becomes the fourth player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his fifth season he’s reached that milestone. His best season was 2022 with the Angels, when he had 24.7 points, second overall and second among AL pitchers. Ohtani led NL batters in 2024 with the Dodgers when he had 11.0 Box-Toppers points. In 2025, while he won NL Most Valuable Player, he had relatively few Box-Toppers points (5.5, 171st overall). (Related: Why Judge, Raleigh, Ohtani don’t appear on Box-Toppers’ 2025 MVP ballots.)

This was Ohtani’s ninth Player of the Game honor of 2026 and his sixth as a starting pitcher; the other three have come as a designated hitter. Because he has more than 25 percent of his Player of the Game honors as a batter (33.3 percent) and a pitcher (66.7 percent), he qualifies to rank at both positions with his full 10.7 Box-Toppers point total.

As a result, he ranks second among NL pitchers and first among NL batters, ahead of Ketel Marte of the Diamondbacks (5.5 points). However, separately, his 7.7 points as a pitcher would rank sixth among NL pitchers and his 3.0 points as a designated hitter would rank 19th among NL batters.

Ohtani now has 101.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 89th place among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Wednesday, he passes three players on the “all-time” career points list—Jason Schmidt (101.2), Mark Teixeira (101.3) and Tim Wakefield (101.4). (Wakefield would have an estimated 110 career points if his entire career from 1992 were tracked.) Ohtani now trails 88th-ranked player Ken Griffey Jr. (102.2). (Griffey would have an estimated 140 career points if his entire career from 1989 were tracked.)

Ohtani ranks 15th among active, signed players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers and first among active NL batters, ahead of teammate Freddie Freeman (96.9).

Ohtani has earned more of his 101.9 career points as a pitcher (55.2, 54.2%) than as a batter (46.7, 45.8%).

Ohtani just missed earning overall Player of the Day Wednesday. He recorded a +9.0 Box-Toppers game score, the same as Player of the Day winner Webb. But Webb beat Ohtani on a tiebreaker for Player of the Day honors with more innings pitched—seven vs. six.

Ohtani also served as a designated hitter Wednesday, separately recording a 0.0 Box-Toppers game score (3-4 R 0BI).

Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani rises to second place in season player rankings, earning Player of the Game honors for a second straight day.

Scoring

  • Webb earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points as Player of the Day.

  • Fedde earns 1.7 points as AL Player of the Day.

  • Bichette and Ramírez each earn 1.5 points as their league’s Batter of the Day.

  • All of Wednesday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
