Also Wednesday, Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani earned Player of the Game honors. Despite the win, Ohtani slipped from fourth to fifth place overall after being overtaken by Player of the Day Ashcraft.

Other top players Wednesday include Dansby Swanson of the Cubs, Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee and Paul Goldschmidt of the Yankees.

Player of the Day: Braxton Ashcraft, Pirates

Ashcraft struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run, five hits and no walks, in the 11-1 win over the Mariners.

Ashcraft earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 12.4 for the season, rising from seventh to third place overall, behind Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez (13.7 points) and Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski (13.0 points). Ashcraft also ranks third among National League pitchers.

AL Player of the Day: Tanner Bibee, Guardians

Bibee struck out three over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 4-3, 10-inning win over the White Sox. Bibee did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the White Sox tied the game after he exited.

Bibee earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points as American League Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, 26th among AL pitchers.

AL Player of the Day: Tanner Bibee, Guardians.

NL Batter of the Day: Dansby Swanson, Cubs

Swanson hit two home runs, including a three-run home run and a grand slam, in the 10-3 win over the Mets. Swanson went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in seven runs.

Swanson earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points as NL Batter of the Day, giving him 5.5 for the season, 50th among all players and ninth among NL batters.

NL Batter of the Day: Dansby Swanson, Cubs.

AL Batter of the Day: Paul Goldschmidt, Yankees

Goldschmidt hit two home runs and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 4-2 win over the Tigers.

Goldschmidt earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points as AL Batter of the Day and rises to first place among active AL batters in career Box-Toppers points with 89.5, passing Mike Trout of the Angels (88.2). Goldschmidt now ranks third among all active batters behind Dodgers duo Shohei Ohtani (102.9) and Freddie Freeman (97.9). He ranks second among active full-time batters behind Freeman, as Ohtani has earned more than half his career points as a pitcher.

This was Goldschmidt’s first Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor in more than two years. He last earned Player of the Game honors June 13, 2024, with the Cardinals, finishing that season with 1.0 point and earned no points in 2025 with the Yankees. He played in 154 games in 2024 and 146 games in 2025. Goldschmidt’s best season was 2013 with the Diamondbacks when he had 13.7 points, first among NL batters.

AL Batter of the Day: Paul Goldschmidt, Yankees.

Rankings: Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers

Although Ohtani won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors Wednesday, he slips in overall season player rankings from fourth to fifth place after he was passed by Player of the Day Braxton Ashcraft.

Ohtani (6IP 5H 3R 2ER 2BB 8K W in the 4-3 win over the Twins) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.7 for the season.

This was Ohtani’s 10th Player of the Game honor of 2026 and his seventh as a starting pitcher; the other three have come as a designated hitter. Because he has more than 25 percent of his Player of the Game honors as a batter (30 percent) and a pitcher (70 percent), he qualifies to rank at both positions with his full 11.7 Box-Toppers point total.

As a result, he ranks fourth among NL pitchers and first among NL batters, ahead of Sal Stewart of the Reds (7.0 points). However, separately, his 8.7 points as a pitcher would rank seventh among NL pitchers and his 3.0 points as a designated hitter would rank 32nd among NL batters.

Ohtani now has 102.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 86th place among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Wednesday, he passes three players on the “all-time” career points list—Ken Griffey Jr. (102.2), Miguel Tejada (102.3) and Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (102.4). (Griffey would have an estimated 140 career points if his entire career from 1989 were tracked.) Ohtani now trails 85th-ranked player Jamie Moyer (104.0). (Moyer would have an estimated 128 career points if his entire career from 1989 were tracked.)

Passing Eovaldi, Ohtani now ranks 14th among active, signed players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers and first among active NL batters, ahead of teammate Freddie Freeman (97.9).

Ohtani has earned more of his 102.9 career points as a pitcher (56.2, 54.6%) than as a batter (46.7, 45.4%).

Ohtani also served as a designated hitter Wednesday, separately recording a -1.0 Box-Toppers game score (2-5 R BI).

Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers, won Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors Wednesday, but slips in season player rankings to fifth place.
