Player of the Day: Brandon Woodruff, Brewers
Woodruff struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 2-1, 10-inning win over the Reds. Woodruff did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.
Woodruff was pitching a perfect game until giving up a single to Tyler Stephenson with one out in the sixth inning. He threw just 79 pitches, returning for his first start since April 30, following a nearly two-month stint on the injured list for right shoulder inflammation. Woodruff underwent right shoulder surgery in 2023 for anterior capsule repair, missing the entire 2024 season and had a drop in pitching velocity earlier this season before going on the injured list.
In his April 30 start, he averaged 85.4 mph on his fastball and none of his pitches exceeded 86.9 mph. However, on Monday, his fastball was generally above 90 mph, peaking at 94.9 mph in the sixth inning.
Woodruff earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 130th among all players and 37th among National League pitchers.
Prior to his surgery, Woodruff logged consecutive seasons with more than 10 Box-Toppers points (both with Milwaukee):
In 2021, his 17.1 points were eighth overall, sixth among NL pitchers.
In 2022, his 20.8 points were fourth overall, second among NL pitchers.
In 2025, Woodruff earned 9.7 points in just 12 starts after returning from the injured list on July 6, finishing 20th among NL pitchers.
AL Player of the Day: Kyle Bradish, Orioles
Bradish struck out nine over eight scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk, in the 6-1 win over the Angels.
Bradish earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points as American League Player of the Day, giving him 5.1 for the season, 20th among AL pitchers.
NL Batter of the Day: Nathan Church, Cardinals
Church went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
AL Batter of the Day
None. No AL batter won Player of the Game honors in the 12 games completed.
