Also Sunday, Angels pitcher José Soriano regains the top spot in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez rises to fourth place with his top player honor Sunday.

Player of the Day: Jacob deGrom, Rangers

deGrom struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 3-0 win over the Cubs.

deGrom earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, rising to eighth place overall and fourth among American League pitchers.

deGrom also now has 156.9 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 23rd among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 2.0 points Sunday, he passes two players on the “all-time” career points list—Mike Mussina (155.6) and Bartolo Colon (155.9). (It should be noted that Mussina would have an estimated 193 Box-Toppers points if his entire career from 1991 were tracked. Colon played from 1997 to 2018, so Box-Toppers tracked his entire career.) deGrom now trails 22nd-ranked player Tim Hudson (157.0, who played from 1999-2015).

deGrom ranks fifth among active, signed players in career points, fourth among active AL pitchers.

Soriano (7.2IP 5H RBB 7K W in the 6-1 win over the Blue Jays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 8.0 for the season. He rises from fourth place and passes the previous leader, Pirates pitcher Braxton Ashcraft (7.7 points), who only took the lead Saturday. Soriano also rises to first place among AL pitchers, passing previous leader, Max Fried of the Yankees (7.0 points).

Soriano previously led season player rankings beginning April 12 until he was passed by Fried April 27.

Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez rises to fourth place with his top player honor Sunday.

Sánchez (7IP 6H 0R 0BB 7K W in the 6-0 win over the Rockies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.0 for the season. He ranks third among NL pitchers, behind Braxton Ashcraft (7.7) and Paul Skenes (7.0), both of the Pirates.

Tigers relief pitcher Enmanuel De Jesus made his Box-Toppers debut Sunday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

De Jesus (2.1IP 0H 0R 0BB K W in the 6-3 win over the Royals) made his Major League debut Sept. 9, 2023, and was playing in his 12th career game.
