Player of the Day: José Soriano, Angels
Soriano struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, in the 9-6 win over the Reds.
Soriano earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, rising from third to first place overall, passing previous leader, Twins pitcher Taj Bradley (4.7 points).
It’s Soriano’s fourth Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of the season. He’s earned 1.0 point as Player of the Game twice (March 26 and March 31) and 2.0 points as overall Player of the Day twice (he also did it April 6).
Soriano recorded a +12.0 Box-Toppers game score, the same as another Sunday Player of the Game winner, Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen (6IP H 0R 0BB 7K W in the 5-4 win over the Yankees). But Soriano won overall Player of the Day honors on a tiebreaker with more innings pitched than Rasmussen—seven vs. six.
NL Player of the Day: Nick Pivetta, Padres
Pivetta struck out four over three scoreless and hitless innings, allowing no walks, in the 7-2 win over the Rockies.
Pivetta exited the game with right elbow stiffness. He did not pitch the required five innings to earn the win, but qualified to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors by pitching at least three innings.
Pivetta earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, 13th overall and fifth among National League pitchers.
AL Batter of the Day: Willson Contreras, Red Sox
Contreras homered and went 4-for-5, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 9-3 win over the Cardinals.
Contreras has now earned Box-Toppers points in 10 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2026. He earned his first points in 2016 with the Cubs and now has 38.7 career points, fourth among active American League first basemen. His best season was 2025 with the Cardinals, when he had 5.7 points, 26th among NL batters.
NL Batter of the Day: Dansby Swanson, Cubs
Swanson homered and went 1-for-2, scoring three times and driving in one run, in the 7-6 win over the Pirates.
Swanson has now earned Box-Toppers points in 11 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2026. Swanson earned his first point in 2016 with the Braves and now has 40.2 career points, 22nd among active NL batters and fourth active among NL shortstops. His best season was 2021 with the Braves when he had 7.0 points, third among NL shortstops. He earned 4.0 Box-Toppers points in 2025 with the Cubs, 49th among NL batters and seventh among NL shortstops.

Notable: Jacob deGrom, Rangers
deGrom now has 153.2 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
deGrom (6IP 4H R 3BB 9K W in the 5-2 win over the Dodgers) rises to 26th place in career points since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With his 1.0 point Sunday, he passes Greg Maddux (152.7) on the “all-time” career points list. (It should be noted that Maddux would have an estimated 250 career Box-Toppers points if his entire career from 1986 were tracked.)
deGrom now trails 25th-ranked player Adam Wainwright (153.3).
deGrom ranks fifth among active, signed players in career points and fourth among AL pitchers.
Debut
Braves closing pitcher Dylan Dodd made his Box-Toppers debut Sunday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Dodd (3IP H 0R 0BB 2K Sv in the 13-1 win over the Guardians) made his Major League debut April 4, 2023, and was playing in his 37th career game.
