Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez is Box-Toppers Player of the Day for Thursday, as 22 Major League teams open their 2026 seasons.
Other top players Thursday include Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet, Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal, Chase DeLauter of the Guardians, Alec Burleson of the Cardinals and Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Player of the Day: Cristopher Sánchez, Phillies
Sánchez struck out 10 over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 5-3 win over the Rangers.
Sánchez earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. This allows him to take the early season lead over Wednesday’s top player, Max Fried. While both now have 2.0 points on the season, Sánchez holds the tie-breaker for the top spot in player rankings based on his superior 2025 season total (15.8 vs. 14.4).
Sánchez’s 15.8 points in 2025 were 11th among all players and seventh among National League pitchers.
AL Player of the Day: Garrett Crochet, Red Sox
Crochet struck out eight over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, in the 3-0 win over the Reds.
Crochet earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points in his first game, putting him in third place in early-season rankings. He earned 19.8 points in 2025, fourth overall and second among American League pitchers, behind Tarik Skubal of the Tigers 22.1.
AL Batter of the Day: Chase DeLauter, Guardians
DeLauter hit two home runs and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 6-4 win over the Mariners.
This was DeLauter’s Box-Toppers debut and his first career Player of the Game honor. While it was his regular-season Major League debut, the 24-year-old actually made his MLB debut in 2025, appearing in two postseason games for the Guardians after a strong minor league performance.
NL Batter of the Day: Alec Burleson, Cardinals
Burleson homered and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 9-7 win over the Rays.
Notable
In addition to Crochet, two other players who finished among the top 10 players in Box-Toppers points for 2025 won Player of the Game honors Thursday:
