Skubal earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 8.0 for the season, rising to second place overall, behind Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler (11.1 points). He rises to first place among AL pitchers, passing previous leader Bryan Woo of the Mariners (8.0 points), who falls to second place. Though Skubal and Woo both have 8.0 points on the season, Skubal ranks higher because he has more 2024 points—21.1 vs. 11.7.

With Skubal’s rise to second place, the top two players in 2025 Box-Toppers season player rankings are the same as the top two players at the end of 2024: Wheeler led all players with 21.4 points and Skubal ranked second with 21.1, first among AL pitchers.

Skubal’s +20.0 game score Sunday is the highest since Sept. 1, 2022, when Braves pitcher Spencer Strider recorded a +22.0 game score (8IP 2H 0R 0BB 16K W in the 3-0 win over the Rockies).

The highest game score in 2024 was +19.0 by Twins pitcher Pablo López on June 23 (8IP 2H 0R BB 14K W in the 3-0 win over the Athletics).

With Skubal’s rise into Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list, he pushes the only remaining batter from the list, teammate Riley Greene (6.5 points), who falls to 12th place overall, but still ranks first among AL batters. Greene had only joined the top 10 list on Tuesday.

Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera (5.2IP 3H 0R 2BB 10K W in the 2-0 win over the Angels) earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, his first points of the season, and is 71st among NL pitchers.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
